Re: cleaning woodwork and wall

Washing walls.....I am a pretty good house cleaner....but I don't wash walls.  I do use my vacuum wand and go over the walls on occasion,  but not with water...am I missing something.

 I can see doing it if there has been an 'episode' in a particualr room....someone enlighten me, please.

Re: cleaning woodwork and wall

I use Murphy’s Oil Soap for the wooden stair banister in my home. It is the best I have found for wood. TSP is very strong and can be used to clean but it can also take the paint or finish off so it must be used carefully. I used it to clean a surface before painting it, so it is strong.

I agree with @Kachina624  with her suggestion to use TSP. I've used it in the past, and it is excellent for cleaning almost anything. No fumes - just a powerful cleaning powder that is mixed with water, and available at Lowes, Home Depot, etc.

Re: cleaning woodwork and wall

@Mom2Dogs,

My mother washed walls 2x a year with either Top Job or Spic and Span, due to the fact she and my dad were smokers, along with the fact we heated with wood and coal.    Our walls got dirty.

I only wash my bathroom and kitchen walls.

I would NOT USE TSP, we use to clean our deck with this, it bleaches out everything, clothes you have on also.

When you lose some one you L~O~V~E, that Memory of them, becomes a TREASURE.

Re: cleaning woodwork and wall

I have been using Murphys Wood soap for my brand new millwork and new closet doors, my wood stair case and basically anything wood that has a finish on it--boy does it take the dirt off---had major re- con to my house from a tree falling on it and was left to do the cleaning afterwards. I like the TSP but spic n span sounds good too. have lots more to do.

Re: cleaning woodwork and wall

Years ago I worked for a fire repair contractor.  They always used TSP to clean those smoked walls.  Tri Sodium Phosphate.
