Re: clean crush food challenge

"Clean" food is just plain boiled chicken, no seasonings, no  butter. Steamed veggies and steamed fish. Plain unseasoned food.

I lose on low carb, but it puts me into Afib.

I can't eat gluten and haven't had any for 41 years, so no bread, pizza, cake, cookies, etc.

@Carmie   low carb puts you into afib!?   I have afib, but had ablation that worked. I was lucky!   Do you take meds for afib? I know a couple of the drugs for afib can add pounds and make it hard to loose weight.

I agree; that style of eating is beyond boring nor is it appealing to me.

I lost a little over 100lbsvover a period of several years because my arthritis was so painful, I didn't often visit the kitchen. Did not deliberately diet.

I've found as time goes on, I've lost my appetite for many foods including chocolate, pizza and my old favorite, ice cream.   They are repulsive to me now.  My meal size is about half of what it used to be, and I was never a big eater.  Now I eat 2 lite meals a day, just enough to subsist.

Re: clean crush food challenge

@Kachina624   I know what you mean.  My appetite has diminished through the years, as well.  However, I literally FORCE MYSELF to cook every day so I have enough food that's tasty (I'm a good cook) to give me the strength and energy to function with all I have to do around my apt!

My worst fear is to become "frail" and need help to run my home!  After my knee replacement in 2019 I needed home assistance and hired a private care giver.  I had her for 3 weeks AND COULDN'T WAIT TO DISMISS HER and resume my duties around the house.

That fear is what keeps me going.  The 10 day Holiday hiatus is not a good time of year for me because many of the people I interact with are away and/or unavailable (including my family).

I'm very glad that Monday is only a few days away so I can get into my normal "swing of things."

Re: clean crush food challenge

I eat a balanced diet. I read food labels and I use a food scale always. I also keep a daily food journal (most of the time) of the food I eat to help keep me on track. I don't eat empty-calorie food. You won't find condiments in my fridge or sugar in my cupboard. It's pretty boring and bland but that's  what works for me plus I exercise for over an hour everyday.

Re: clean crush food challenge

After reading this thread I'm glad I eat the dirtiest foods out there, the dirtier the better.  I still don't gain no more than 5lbs a month if I'm lucky.

@Carmie  FWIW, If a "reverse diet" is something you have not yet tried, it may be another option to consider.
(I did read that you don't do low carb due to Afib.) In the realm of low carb eating, it is discussed often. With increased satiation from eating more nutrient dense foods, people can find themselves undereating, which, over time, can slow metabolism. Reverse dieting can rev it up. HTH!

Re: clean crush food challenge

@shoekitty   I never had meds or had any procedures for Afib.  I just go in it for a short time, then go back to normal.  Once I go off of the low carb diet, Afib doesn't return.  I have had to wear a cardiac monitor for a few weeks to make sure.

My husband went into Afib during his second cataract  surgery and he has Cardioversion twice but Afib came back both times.  He also had ablation which worked.  He still has to take Eliquis every day though.

I am under strict doctor's orders not to do a low carb diet again.  The last time I went into Afib was right after my knee replacement surgery while still in the OR.  I lost 20 lbs before surgery so I would get around better afterward.  It wasn't a good idea.  I had a ton of cardiac tests for a few days before they would let me go home. All was normal.

I finally admitted I was doing low carb and went into Afib on it before.  That's been three years ago and I haven't had a problem since.

My husband and I both both check our heart rhythm almost every with a KardiaMobile device.

I take no meds except for 4000iu of vitamin D3 every day.

@SHOPR   Thanks, I'll do some research into that.
