we are in the midst of a major cicada infestation (central maryland area.)
they are EVERYWHERE! the bushes and trees are covered with them.
it is so NOISY, especially with the windows open, and i think they are scaring away the birds......have not seen too many at my bird feeders.
anyone else having this problem this year? we all thought it was supposed to be LAST year in our area, but i think they miscalculated a bit. ![]()

We had them last year.
They're so annoying.

Not far from you in Northern Virginia. Yes, we have the constant background noise - it's loud. And the bugs. The older your trees and house are the more bugs you will find. The infestation is ahead of schedule due to climate change - the ground is warmer than it used to be causing the early hatch.

No cicadas here in southeastern PA. They are the soundtrack to late summer here; seems odd you'd have them so early.

@sunshine45 a little south of you, we were overrun by them 2-3 weeks ago. It was horrible - they were EVERYWHERE. And my pup thought they were candy. The good news is - all gone within a week. Hang in there!!

I grew up in Silver Spring in the 50s and I still remember the twenty year locusts. My, what a racket (and fun for kids). One of the neighborhood kids dissected one (he became a surgeon).

I'm on the Maryland side of DC and have only seen a trace or two of the cicadas thus far. I can vividly remember the last major infestation we had. Glad it's not an annual occurrence!!!!

Reminds me of the cricket infestation we had come throu one year.....it was so strange, they were all marching east. Every single one of them. You couldn't walk anywhere outside without crunching a bunch of them underfoot. Just gross ):
