cat problem

my cats have always been a problem when it comes to using the litter box. Usually they would use it if confined to one room and nothing was on the floor. Today while cleaning the room they are in, my office, I discovered they are peeing on the hardwood and have made dark spots on the wood. I am at the end of my rope with them. I have made so many sacrifices with them and spent so much money to make them living in my office pleasant for all of us and now they are worse than ever. Any suggestions? I know I need to get a vet check but this has been happening their entire life. They stayed in a cat condo for awhile while i was retraining them to use the litter box. That was a few years ago. Should I do that again? HELP
