@goldensrbest

You didn't spell it wrong.  When I was a kid, everyone said carmels.  I never heard carAmels until years later.

Maybe it was regional, maybe it was from long ago.

I say carAmels now but carmels sound better to me Smiley Happy

I like Trader Joe's dark chocolate salted caramels.

The center is soft and gooey, I hate a hard center caramel.

Be warned that neither of my picks for an excellent caramel are inexpensive.

Fran's Chocolates, a Seattle company, makes the sea salt caramels that were the favorites of the president and his wife.

Bequet caramels are hard to resist, too.

I don't buy them anymore because I can't stop at one or two😕

I love Bequet caramels, particularly the Celtic Sea Salt and Soft varieties!

The best caramels I've ever had were purchased in CVS. I can't remember the name but they were 3/$1 on display on the counter at the cash registers.  They are vanilla flavored and I thought they were delicious.

Kilwins Alexandria.  They have different kinds of caramels and they can be shipped.

I've found Lancaster caramels to be very good too which can be found in most any store.

Image result for abbotts caramels

Abbott's Caramels from Hagerstown, Indiana.

I believe you can order them from their web site but they're sold mostly to groups/organizations for fundraisers.

@beckyb1012, I LOVE Caramels and prefer them much more than even chocolate.  I can't allow myself to buy these anymore because I have no will power but they are absolutely divine!!!!!!!

I'm always intrigued by the different regional procunciations of the same item.

I was always told that CarMEL was a place (as in CA or NY), but that carAmel was the candy confection.

The Oxford Dictionary has this to say:

9. Caramel

The word caramel can acceptably be pronounced in several accepted ways, including KARR-uh-mel, KARR-uh-muhl, and, in North American English, KAR-muhl. The disappearance of that second syllable -uh- in the final pronunciation seems to have been in the works for a long time. The word has been in English since the 18th century, which it came via French from the Spanish caramel.

So apparently either pronumciation is approved by Oxford. For me, since the original word is carAmel, that's what I'll stick to.  I have a very good friend that says CARmel, and it hurts my ears each time!
