A couple of weeks ago when we were at the Animal Emergency Clinic, a couple of things happened there that were very unsettling to me. We don't use the ER Clinic unless absolutely necessary, due to cost among other things, we thought others were the same way.

When we first walked in the door Hurley was covered in drool (from foaming at the mouth) and urine, he was wobbly, screaming and in the post-ictal phase of a seizure. He is a very large Siberian Husky. There was an elderly couple there with a small poodle on a flexi leash...the first thing the tech wanted was a weight on Hurley. So the elderly couple lets their dog run all the way to the scale and says "she is very friendly, she just wants to say hi". Ummmm my dog is in the post ictal phase, very hungry and your dog looks like a tasty snack. The safety issues involved here boggle my mind...all the infectious diseases etc. This is not the place for socialization!

When we had to return to the hospital that evening, thankfully they took Hurley right into the back immediately. A woman came in with a rotty pup she suspected might have parvo and was letting him wander around the waiting room unleashed! Another couple with a doxie letting it wander around unleashed. The others in the waiting room thankfully had their pets leashed or crated...but I just can't believe people would take that risk. If they are at ER they must be pretty ill or injured, I don't think it is time to socialize your pet.

Do you agree?
