baking competitions...curious

Just curious if any one else has this opinion...

I love watching the baking competitions...Halloween, Christmas, Spring, etc...

and the winner gets like $10, 000

but I feel bad for 2nd and 3rd place.  they went all the way and got nothing.  They worked

hard and got to the very end...and nothing...They got the same amout as the person who was booted the very first show and all the other shows.

I think it would be nice if they gave 2nd and 3rd even just a small amount.

I know Food Network won't see this or do anything about this...but I'm just venting...

I guess I just feel bad for them.

I agree...but the contestants go into this knowing what's what.

sorry, that's like giving everyone a trophy because they played the game. what makes the winner feel special is they beat everyone. the winner deserves the prize that's what competition is all about.

I understand your point, however the exposure might be wort more than a prize. Many of them have bakeries and the publicity must be good for business.

No-- I think that while the other people don't get any cash, they certainly get recognitions for their bakeries or shops---I bet their businesses get lots of work afterwards. Free advertising is gold!!

I agree that 2nd and 3rd know this going into the competition...but even in other competitions 2nd and 3rd sometimes get something. (not all but sometimes)  Hey even in the olympics 2nd and 3rd get medals.

I'm just expressing my thoughts.that's all

I did forget about the exposure for their business...that is a great thought.  I am sure that will help them.  And the longer they are on the show the longer they will show their talent as bakers.  I would think this would give a boost to their business.

Re: baking competitions...curious

Totally quit watching the competitions cold turkey.  The judging is so sketchy and some shows they seem to want someone certain people to win and move forward no matter how bad they are.  They make tons of money off these people due to the interest in the shows and reruns. The producers Duff, Foodnetwork ,etc need to be ashamed of themselves.  They are multimillionaires.

You used to learn something from the cooks when it these shows starting now it's just an obnoxious reality show.

How do you know the top runners up do not get anything?

On Survivor, the next 2 also get a prize but they never mention it.

Ain't no million bucks, LOL, but $100K for 2nd place and $85K for third.

The GBBO gives the winner a cake plate and flowers. The 2nd and 3rd place don't get a thing. All the bakers get exposure and networking within the GBBO shows and family.

American shows appear more cutthroat because the network thinks that's what the US audience wants—fighting, cheating, lying, and tears. Very similar to our elections.
