Where do you get the facts? I've seen it reported from the city in our state/the local news/the local newspaper and the national news. I don't have any children so I have no reason to look further into this, and I do not live in Lincoln, Nebraska.
Give me the "facts" as you know them and please give me the source especially if I can contact them myself for my own assurance.
It was one suggestion made in a teacher training session seminar but is not school policy. For some reason (sensationalism would be my guess) media outlets latched on to purple penguins.
adelle38,
Thank you for this link. One of the guys that plays in my hockey league is a "staff writer" for the Omaha World Herald and he is the one that told me about the "Purple Penguins" as replacing Boys/Girls. The way he told me I thought it was already a fact. Obviously I either misunderstood him or what he told me was not correct.
Did also see this on our local ABC affiliate TV station and also on one of the Network News broadcasts. Guess this friend of mine got this circulated to the TV media also.
Appreciate you setting things straight for me. And wait until I see this guy next Thursday night when we play hockey! 8-)

My husband is working.
Have a great time, lulu2. I went once about 10 years ago and had a blast !

Now it seems journalism consists of finding the most sensational story on the net and repeating it in the most controversial way possible. On 10/12/2014 adelle38 said:That's simply not true. I don't have the day off and neither does my DH and he's a government employee.
Our county offices are all closed but not city and kids are in school.

Yes, we have the day off from school and I have the day off from my wonderful BOYS and GIRLS at my school!!!

Nope. I'm here at work now, it's not a work holiday for us. I believe when they gave us MLK off, they took Columbus day away. Gawd forbid, we should have too many days off....

What is your job/position at your school?

The others in the family have the day off but it's too hot to do much, so we're busy getting the house decorated for Halloween
I'm running out of ideas for hot weather dinners...
