I toss mine.  My husband wears diabetic socks supplied thru the VA; when a hole wears in the foot part of the sock, we cut that off and throw it away, saving the upper section.

Anytime my husband has a scratch on his arm that needs ointment on it, or if his elbows are rough and dry, he puts whatever cream on, then slides the top of the sock over his boo-boo to protect his clothing and recliner from a greasy stain.

I have heaps of socks, and none have had a hole yet. When they do get one, I will toss them out

You have reminded me of a friend growing up in the 50.s for her father was a lawyer Her socks were always darned. Couldn't figure it out for I thought they could afford buying socks. They were the only ones who had a cooler and dish washer then.

Unless you have multiple pairs of exactly the same sock, toss them out.   Or use that single sock as a polishing cloth or the like.

Not too "nuts".

I keep the good one as a sock, and make fur-baby toys from the other. Work sock around in a bag of catnip for a day or two, then stuff inside 1 or 2 other "holey" socks.

When I had dogs, they loved to fetch their socks-stuffed-with-socks toys.

Use the bad ones to warm the seat.  Save the good ones for later. Smiley Wink

@Pooky1My husband wears the same white socks, so if there is a hole, I put it in the rag bag. Then I have an extra if another sock has a hole.

For me, a hole, the pair goes in the trash.

Good for polishing and dusting, that's what I do with them.

I keep the good one, as we buy multiple pairs of socks that are the same brand/color/size/style. And many times, I have later reverted back to that lone sock when another pair just like it has one conk out.

Now if I tend to get too many singles, I will take a second look, see which ones are more likely to be used for re mating, and dump those less likely.

My guys are hard on socks, and I pay a lot of money for really good ones for my son, so I want to be frugal with disposing of ones that might have a longer life.
