Re: and if I say "drive-in" what can you add?

I grew up as one of 6 children and my parents loved drive-ins as they were charged by the car, not the number of people in the car, which was 8 in our case.

Our Ford Country Squire station wagon with the faux wood trim was parked about once a week in the Avon Drive-In.  There was a drawback:  my parents were Alfred Hitchock fans, and so we saw a lot of movies that I found scary.  They wouldn't let us go in our pjs, as the cool children did.

My Mom, little brother and little sister and our Pink Edsel, then the 1968 Ford Mustang and finally a the typical wood panel station wagon.  Later in the mid 70's piling into the trunk of cars or being in a car loaded with teenagers.  Sitting on tailgates and watching again movies, like Jaws that we had already seen at the downtown theater.  Just one big party.

Childhood before even going to school through high school years.  Loved the drive-in.

We still have a drive-in movie theater in our town!  I sure do remember going to them (we had 2 at that time) and that was where everyone hung out on the week end.

Re: and if I say "drive-in" what can you add?

There still is one not far from my house.  My kids used to work there while going to high school.  On the weekends it is used as a swap meet location.

Last time I went, about 10 years ago, was a completely different experience than what I remembered.  People came in trucks, backed into a space, unloaded BBQ equipment and coolers, lawn chairs.  They even had reclining chairs and loveseats in the back of the truck.  Kids were running around and making lots of noise.  It was so distracting and I couldn't hear the sound.  Don't need to do that again.

I only went a couple of times as a kid.

I could never really hear the movie well.

I found myself just eating and spying on the people in the other cars.

I was bored lol.Smiley Very Happy

It is a bit of a drive but still a nice way to spend the evening.  They also run special events, host fund raisers and have scout campouts.

At _____ Drive-In we are bridging the gap between our classic past and our bright future. There used to be over 5,500 drive-in theaters worldwide and now we are one of only 349 left . . . providing you a unique place to make memories that you simply can’t find anymore.

Experience the movies from your car like the “old days” but with the benefits of all of our modern amenities with our modern and high quality digital projection. We have all grass terraces, FM broadcasts, outdoor speakers, Pandora pre-show music, Wi-Fi, and the delicious ___ Grill. Even better, we accept Credit Cards, are pet friendly, have a playground for the kids and so much more!

So bring your picnic blanket or cozy up in your car. We’ll be here waiting on you!

Re: and if I say "drive-in" what can you add?

We had a friend in high shool who drove a pickup so we would  back the truck into the spot and sit in the bed to watch the movie. Usually there would be 2 movies per night so we'd be there very late.

- Movies of course.

- Enjoyed drive-in restaurants all through my pre-teen and   teen years - Bob's Big Boy and Hody's.

- Long before he became nationally known for the Crystal   Cathedral, Robt Schuller started out with a drive-in church.
