a mailman who refuses to ring doorbells

I am irate! Two days in a row I received packages in the mail. My son was home at the time and heard the mailman (we live in an apartment complex) downstairs. The mailman did not ring our bell to let us know there were packages. Instead, he left notices in the box (BOTH DAYS), and I had to go later to the apartment office to retrieve them. (The first day, the office was closed, so I was out of luck.)

Anyway, yesterday I spoke to the man and said he didn't seem to have rung our bell. He said he didn't have time to do that--he had deadlines. He said he'd left the notices, and thought that was sufficient. I couldn't believe it! He said he had too much other things to do on the route to take the time to ring bells. I said I was going to have a file a complaint, and he said "go ahead."

My son thinks I'm overreacting.
