A Jersey tomato with lots of fresh basil on a whole wheat roll is better.  I detest mayo!

That sounds good. I hate mayo too!

Had BLT's for dinner two days in a row now, sooo good. While I was gone for two days, a bird had pecked big holes in three of them, but there are still a dozen beautiful red tomatoes left (:

You guys are torturing me!!!   There is nothing better than a fresh home grown tomato.  I look forward to them every year, and the season is so short.  This year, we got around 20" of rain in June and everyone around here lost their gardens.  There isn't a real tomato to be found.  Have to wait another whole year!  I am so depressed!

@Azcowgirl

I would bring them indoors and just cut off the area where the birds punctured the tomatoes. They are probably still okay.

Funny you should mention tomato sandwiches.  Was out for a ride with my friend and she started describing how delicious the tomato sandwiches are right now and me, not being a fan of tomatoes and/or mayo, was thinking, 'meh'.  heehee    Finally 'fessed up and told her I don't care for either one and she couldn't believe anyone could feel that way!

Enjoy your tomatoes!  Smiley Very Happy

I like to use leftover Caprese on crostini or on top of a frittata made with Vidalia onions.

Did I spell those right ?

There aren't too many things I miss about the Midwest. One thing is the big Beefsteak tomatoes my dad used to grow.  Tomato, mayo, salt and pepper on a good sourdough.

Yum Yum is right!

The only other 'best' thing I can think of would be to pick a sun-warmed ripe tomato from the vine, wash it off, maybe sprinkle a bit of salt on it and bite into it.

Nothing like this either!  ANd yes I LOVE tomato sandwiches, do this often.  Still SO good!
