@Kachina624 West Texas is having a frightening wind event today. Sustained winds are 25-40 MPH with gusts over 60. Of course, we have blowing dust (or sand to be more accurate.)

About 10:30 A.M. a downburst hit my backyard. It was a terrible sound. I was sitting in the sunroom at the back of the house. The blinds were closed because I did not want to see the weather. A noise I had never before heard startled me just as my windows rattled. At least 3 doves were blown into the glass when they tried to take flight. Thank goodness they all eventually were able to fly away. I am still a bit shaken by the experience.

Within minutes after the downburst, I heard fire trucks responding. I have no doubt there was damage somewhere.

we are getting a taste of spring once again.

@On It    We had about 1" of snow overnight but a bright sunny morning.  Now its overcast and the wind is picking up here with more snow predicted for tonight.  I've never  such a windy winter as we've had.

Your micro burst must have been very frightening.  Weather is so weird anymore, every day is a new adventure.  You ought to be in Ruidoso today.  TV video from there looks like a Christmas card with lots of snow.

@Kachina624 I wish I were there. This is almost suffocating. You can smell the dust in the air. This extreme weather thing is getting to be too much. I swear it is coming through the brick exterior and sealed windows of my house.

Re: Your Weather?

[ Edited ]

@Kachina624  We got 3 inches overnight.   Sunny morning..then wind...snowing now...I'm hoping the wind will blow some of this storm eastward.  Weather guy says maybe 7 more inches..I know I know the drought...irrigation water...but geez...lol...

Yesterday I made a pot of plain pintos in the IP. They are locally grown on the "dry side".  As you know the fields are plowed and planted...the only other maintenance they get is weeding.  That's how pintos are grown here. Mother Nature takes care of the rest.  If we get rain they get watered.  No pesticides or herbicides...

So I'm using a few cups of those beans and making a hardy bean soup.

Keep warm...DW

PS using those wonderful Hatch NM chilis in the soup...

@dancingwoman    Bean soup would taste really good today.  They raise pintos in the San Luis Valley where my dad was raised.

Don't forget, we're downriver from you and need that snowmelt badly.

@Kachina624  Yep we all need this moisture..when the summer comes it will be nice to have a full season of irrigation water from Lemon Reservoir not just a couple weeks.  My lil orchard and berry bushes will love it...DW

@On It   My favorite thing in West Texas is when the red dust blows hard while its raining.  You then get mud coming from the skies.  You can't drive half a block without washing your windshield.  Such a charming feature

We. get plenty of blowing dust too but it doesn't rain mudballs.

@dancingwoman I love fresh pinto beans. We grew pintos in our large garden on the farm in West Texas when I was a child. Have you ever tried picking the pod before it forms its beans? It is a lot of work to even get enough for one meal, but they are the best green beans I have ever eaten.

Your soup sounds wonderful! Just think that the Hatch Chile you eat next year will be the result of the snow you are enduring now.

Enjoy!

@On It  I'll have to see if The rancher will let me pick some this summer.  Hopefully he will be planting.  The past few years because of the drought he hasn't even planted..depends on how much moisture is in the ground.  Sounds delicious!  DW
