So some have painted their front doors and I'd like to know how they came out ... did you change the color entirely and do you like your choice? I was thinking, it sounds easy enough but probably isn't. Did you have to take the door down and sand it and use a primer first .... a lot of work, but it must look fresh and beautiful now. What color doors are out there now? Anyone else planning to do this?

Our door is painted burgandy and yes, we took it off the hinges to paint it, (we did both sides) I probably did a slight sanding but it did not take long to sand. I will say it does take a while to do, especially a dark color needs several coats and the paint has to be very dry so that you can turn it over and paint the inside, if you are doing the interior side. I like having a colored front door, it adds a nice color to the house.

edited to add, that we have a storm door that locks so we were able to have the steel door off for several days to get the job done. If I had it to do over again I think I would purchase a good sprayer and spray the door.

Our front door is an all paned French door. It's painted a soft lemony yellow (we actually had to customize the color ourselves) to match the yellow and white striped awnings we have on the front porch and side windows.

We also have a full glass storm door.

Our primary residence is a small (880 sq. ft.) beach cottage. It's not a stately front entrance, more a casual, but dressy one.

I painted the front door in my last house a couple times. I lived there 10 years. First time teal, second time burgundy. I left the door on the hinges and only painted the front. The sides and back were stained. I taped the window and door knob. If I were to do it again, I'd do it the same way.

I have double doors and storm doors which are metal so I didn't sand them but I did clean them well. I can't take them down. They have windows at the top which I taped with masking tape. They are painted a soft coral color.

Our front door in our former townhome we painted a nice looking blue. It faced the West so got a lot of hot sun on the wood. We lived there for about 6 years after we painted it and it still looked very good when we moved into your present home.

Currently, our front door is painted a charcoal gray. The trim around the door is white. Our shutters are painted a medium olive green and coordinate well with the door. We like the colors we chose.

Our front door is painted black............the brick on our home is antique brick which has touches of black in it so the BLACK DOOR really stands out and is quite elegant. We put a brass kick plate across the bottom.

Boring white door, white porch. Now I'm thinking..............(about painting it another color)......

'More or less', 'Right or wrong', 'In general', and 'Just thinking out loud ' (as usual).
