Re: You are being sued by the IRS.

I'm at the point where I don't bother to answer the phone if I don't recognize the number/name on Caller ID. I listen when the answering machine picks up. 99% of the time it's a hang up, no message left. Once in a great while it's been an office confirming an appointment and the name hasn't come through on Caller ID. I'll pick up then-

I'll add my usual comment about Nomorobo -- it's a free, safe, effective service to protect your phone number(s) from annoying, unwanted calls. Not available everywhere, with every provider, but it's growing:

Re: You are being sued by the IRS.

I got a call the other day that said Out of Area 49. Unable to block that number, has called twice in 2 days.

I remember those 'Peggy' calls-- they were a hoot. Much better than the 'Flo' commercials.

Re: You are being sued by the IRS.

I've had several of the IRS scam calls. It's a recording, which it hilarious in its self. The other humorous part is the guy with the foreign accent delivers this message of doom that I am about to be arrested and then he says, "take care and have a good day," or something to that effect. I reported it, but the IRS didn't seem to be very interested.

Re: You are being sued by the IRS.

I would advise everyone to have caller ID and an answering machine and not to even pick up the phone if you don't recognize the number or the voice on the machine.

This would save a lot of headaches.

Also in our area it was on the news that people are also starting those calls where they say a young relative has been arrested or some other bogus story and they need money to get out.

Caller ID, Answering machine. DONT answer. Its that simple!

And if someone does call saying on your machine they need money for a relative for anything call the relative and check! Because its bogus.

Regarding my post above - many times I am out, I get a call on my cell from a number I don't know and I don't answer. As soon as it stops ringing, I check to see if there is a voice message and if not, I google. Just entering the number into the google bar all kinds of sites come up where people have answered and what the calls are. More times than not, they are fundraising places that are calling on behalf of a charity or a scam, and I don't return either.

Guess I'm wondering - do people answer all calls at home or cell without checking to see who it is?? Growing up before the days of caller ID, parents always said if it's important they'll call back or leave a message since answering machines have been around much longer.

This is what I do...which is why when I had time on Saturday I googled them....I had like 39 hang ups on my answer machines except for the Solar people..they left messages.

Problem is with the block..they change the variation of the number..for instance the IRS one.. and they area code was the one for our State Capital LOL...the numbers would end in 0008 0007 0006...

St. Judes had different numbers too..they all started off with the Area Code 901.

I have noticed this for hubby's MDs...his is a huge group in a large city..so they use a Service and it goes up 1800-service lol..so then I know it is usually a confirmation for a appt..but don't answer if I am home anyway..
