You Think Your Weather Has Been Weird?

This past week-end a town in Northern Algeria in the Sahara Desert, one of the hottest places on earth, received 18 inches of snow.

That is weird.  Global warming?  Not.

@Kachina624@makena

There was a temperature “anomaly” world map published last week during the #bombcyclone that I sure would like to know more about.

Re: You Think Your Weather Has Been Weird?

Weather has always been weird. I'm 59 years old and in my lifetime I've seen pretty much everything. For a while they were saying we were in a new ice age. Some were advocating building massive man-made mountains with steel spines north of our major cities to break up the advancing glaciers to prevent them from crushing our big cities. Then the Gulf Stream was moving up the East Coast and NJ would have Miami-like weather. A local farm/nursery column in our county paper recommended local nurserymen plant orange, lemon and grapefruit trees instead of apple and peach trees due to the soon to be tropical weather. Yeah, not a good idea.

We just got above freezing for the first time in a couple of weeks yesterday. Weather is ever-changing and unpredictable, despite their best attempts to convince us otherwise. We could be seventy next week or seven below, you just never know. If you look at the geological/fossil record you'll find tropical plant fossils near the poles and cooler weather fossils nearer the equator. There is no stability in the weather and climate. It's constantly in flux.

Climatologists have theorized that events such as this could be the result of global warming, in particular, warming of the Arctic region. This Arctic warming (theoretically) causes the jet stream to behave oddly and in turn breaks down the jet stream's ability to act as a barrier to keep the cold air contained in the northern Arctic regions. When this barrier becomes unstable the weather patterns around the world become unusual and extreme. No denying it has.

Weather is weird by nature, and has been throughout history.

There are cycles that ebb and flow, and then there are drastic and extreme anomalies that are also documented throughout history.

Does man's development and byproducts affect mother earth, yes. Is the whole global warming/climate change thing as big and scary and the sole cause of weather changes we see....probably not.

I would,

never,

never,

ever

taunt the Climate Gods w/ false global warming statements.

Especially since so many have been through weather h*ll in 2017.

Just...no.

(thread title)

@Kachina624

Nope! As far back as my 78 year old memory takes me, the weather here in Nebraska has always been weird(?), No! Unpredictable? Yes! Weird is a subjective word to me, your weird might be my normal! Drastic changes in temps and/or storm patterns, I see no difference.
