@BoopOMatic Why can't your dog be alone for 5 hrs.? This sounds more like a "you" problem.

I WOULDN'T go.

@BoopOMatic do you ever leave your dog for more than an hour or two alone? Do you leave your house without the dog? And maybe is it a dog who helps you walk or something?
It sounds like you are insepearble and he/she is your only companion. If so stay put stay together and god bless you.

We are all assuming that @BoopOMatic doesn't want to leave the dog home alone This was presented as a WWYD? scenario and we don't even know how OP feels about it!

It doesn't matter, it's only 5 hours separation. I feel sorry for the lady who full of anxiety. Again, It could be her life and she is scared. No problem.

you wrote "We are down to one deaf, almost blind dog outside..." How horrific for your poor dog.

I'd make arrangements for the dog and go, if it's someone I really wanted to see and spend time with.
I believe it's presumptuous to even imagine someone else is going to love my dog as much as I do or think an invitation should automatically include him. If I am invited to someone's home, I would never expect or assume that it's OK for me to bring the dog along. We board him whenever we need to be away from home. He's treated quite well at the kennels we use.

The visit would be about 2 hours and the drive is 1 1/2 hr. each way.
(gave my first response above before reading all the others.)
Wait a minute. You're having a problem with leaving your dog for five hours? Sorry, but that's nonsense, IMO, and nothing to be upset about or even in a dilemma over. Dog owners all over the country go to work everyday and leave their dogs home for much longer than that. Do you ever meet friends for lunch and a movie or shopping, or have a day of appointments and/or multiple errands? I'll bet you're gone 5 hrs. then. Do you get up during the night with your dog or does he sleep through the night until morning? That's more than 5 hrs.
It seems to me, that you're making a mountain out of a molehill. Or maybe you don't really want to go, in the first place, so you're using your dog as an excuse and you're here looking for justification. It's quite possible, even likely, that your dog will be more comfortable in their own home than in strange surroundings anyway, but that's beside the point.

We still work and our pups stay home. When we go shopping, out to dinner and a movie, pups stay home.
They do very well.
