Re: Yes or No - Your Opinion

@BoopOMatic Why can't your dog be alone for 5 hrs.?  This sounds more like a "you" problem.

@BoopOMatic  do you ever leave your dog for more than an hour or two alone?  Do you leave your house without the dog?  And maybe is it a dog who helps you walk or something?

It sounds like you are insepearble and  he/she is your only companion.  If so stay put stay together and god  bless you.

Re: Yes or No - Your Opinion

We are all assuming that @BoopOMatic doesn't want to leave the dog home alone This was presented as a WWYD? scenario and we don't even know how OP feels about it!

It doesn't matter, it's only 5 hours separation.  I feel sorry for the lady who full of  anxiety.  Again, It could be her life and she is scared. No problem.

Re: Yes or No - Your Opinion

I'd make arrangements for the dog and go, if it's someone I really wanted to see and spend time with.

I believe it's presumptuous to even imagine someone else is going to love my dog as much as I do or think an invitation should automatically include him.  If I am invited to someone's home, I would never expect or assume that it's OK for me to bring the dog along.  We board him whenever we need to be away from home. He's treated quite well at the kennels we use.

@BoopOMatic  How long is the visit?

The visit would be about 2 hours and the drive is 1 1/2 hr. each way.

(gave my first response above before reading all the others.)

Wait a minute.  You're having a problem with leaving your dog for five hours? Sorry, but that's nonsense, IMO, and nothing to be upset about or even in a dilemma over. Dog owners all over the country go to work everyday and leave their dogs home for much longer than that.  Do you ever meet friends for lunch and a movie or shopping, or have a day of appointments and/or multiple errands?  I'll bet you're gone 5 hrs. then.  Do you get up during the night with your dog or does he sleep through the night until morning?  That's more than 5 hrs.

It seems to me, that you're making a mountain out of a molehill. Or maybe you don't really want to go, in the first place, so you're using your dog as an excuse and you're here looking for justification.  It's quite possible, even likely, that your dog will be more comfortable in their own home than in strange surroundings anyway, but that's beside the point.

Re: Yes or No - Your Opinion

We’ve had multiple dogs for years , all of them rescues some have had horrible lives before coming to spend the rest of their lives here and know love
We don’t take our dogs to others homes as someone else said I wouldn’t want our dogs there if they weren’t welcome , on the flip side we’d have to know other people dogs before they could bring their dogs to our home and around our dogs ,it might be to stressful for our dogs , they have been through enough

We do occasionally babysit our children’s dogs when they are out of town but we know the dogs and know they get along with ours
We are extremely particular with our dogs
I’ve never had any problems visiting others home and leaving our dogs home though 5 hours is really nothing most dogs ,unless they have separation anxiety , are fine that long they just sleep
Usually theres someone here most of the time to care for our dogs so we don’t really have that problem

I’ve only taken a 8 week old tiny shih tzu puppy to someone’s house who didn’t like dogs and allow them in their home in all the years we’ve had dogs
Years ago we were on vacation with our puppy, my familys elderly friends lived in the town we were vacationing in
She wanted us to visit and I told her we would but couldn’t leave the puppy alone that trip
She told us to bring it but hold it , which we did
Her husband loved dogs and wasn’t allowed to have one
He held the puppy almost the whole time there and thanked us over and over for bringing the puppy it brought so much joy to him

it’s really your decision if I didn’t want to visit the person and leave my dogs I wouldn’t have a problem staying home

Re: Yes or No - Your Opinion

We still work and our pups stay home. When we go shopping, out to dinner and a movie, pups stay home.

They do very well.
