Absolutely leave the dog home.

No, their home, keeping it pristine, means more to them than friends and family visits. They probably expect visitors to remove their shoes upon entering and make sure there is a coaster under everyone's drink.
Fortunately, none of my friends or family qualify.

Easy decision for me. Either get a babysitter for the dog or don't go. Depends and if you have to ask then you are on the fence.
I have pets and not all people like pets in their home. I do not want others bringing their pets to my home either because of mine.

I'm a pet lover. As a child, we always had a dog and, as an adult, I've always had a cat. So I certainly get that people love their pets.
Having said that, I think it's unfair to suggest that people are more concerned about a pristine home than they are about family and friends. I'm not good at saying no, so for many years, if someone asked to bring their dog, I would say yes. And sometimes, it was perfectly fine. Other times, not so much. One dog scared my cat to the point where she would stay under the bed for hours. Another time, a dog had an accident on one of my area rugs. One dog scratched up our wood floors. Last year, we spent a small fortune (actually a large fortune) installing new hardwood flooring throughout our house. I no longer say yes to a dog in my house. Is it selfish of me not to want to have to pay to fix my floors because of their dog's behavior?
Personally, I think it's inconsiderate of a pet owner to put their friend or family member in that position. And, no, I do not ask people to take their shoes off when they come into my house. I do put coasters out, and most people are happy to use them. That's just being considerate.

I'm in the camp of 'It'd never occur to me to bring my dog to someone else's home while I visit.'
If a host doesn't want your dog, it's either because they just don't want animals in their home, or because they've already got their own.
Of course we love our pets and kids, but to everyone else they're "someone else's", and aren't a primary care or concern, and that's OK!
Not saying you're like this OP, but some people just go on & on about their pets, and in truth, it's sometimes boring or even annoying.
Exactly like back when our kids were little, and there'd be that parent bragging about their prodigy, or showing a zillion pics of little whatsher/hisname.
Or the mom who'd bring her toddler to a mom only function.
Please enjoy your relatives while you can & have fun! Those few hours might end up creating warm memories.
Don't miss it, or hold a grudge just because of the dog you love.
He or she will be thrilled to see you when you get back home.

The visit would be about 2 hours and the drive is 1 1/2 hr. each way.
STAY HOME. NOT EVERY ONE WANTS YOUR ANIMAL IN THEIR HOUSE. GOOD FOR HER. hOW DARE PEOPLE THINK YOUR ANIMAL SHOULD BE WANTED.???

I guess I really don't see the huge issue. I don't have a dog, admittedly, but I ran errands today and was away from home for 3 1/2 hours. So what does everyone do? Stay home 24/7? Not me.

People know better than to say that to me if they expect me to show up.
