Re: Xfinity Comcast was hacked

I haven't heard a word about this from Xfinity.

The other day our orthopedic surgeon's clinic sent a letter that their system was hacked.

I froze our credit years ago and check our financial sites regularly.

I received an email from xfinity yesterday morning, and yes it was October 10, 2023.

Haven't had any issues.

No one else got an email from them regarding this?

Re: Xfinity Comcast was hacked

I got rid of cable from Comcast 5 years ago, but kept my email address.  Last night I was told to change my password as part of Comcast's ongoing efforts to maintain security.

No mention of a hack or compromised data.  I hope that

the data of former customers wasn't kept.

@FancyPhillyshopper   This is exactly the reason that I pay nothing online.

I pay most things over the phone, since the postal service has been having thefts.

Comcast and Medicare does not accept phone payments (I wish they would).  So, I mail checks to them, but I write the checks with a Sharpie marker.

Glad I do not have this company. I don't think they are even in my area. Wouldn't you think they'd have better security than what allows 37 million people to possibly be affected by this breach? I guess it can happen regardless.

Re: Xfinity Comcast was hacked

Per CBS news: The breach occured in October.

"Under new federal rules that took effect Monday, the Securities Exchange Commission requires public companies to disclose all cybersecurity breaches that could affect their financial results within four days of determining a breach is material."

Also AP:

All Xfinity customers — even those whose accounts might not have been breached — must reset their usernames and passwords, according to Comcast. Xfinity is also encouraging subscribers to use two-factor authentication to secure their accounts.

"While Xfinity advises customers not to re-use passwords across multiple accounts, the company is recommending that customers change passwords for other accounts for which they use the same username and password or security question," Comcast noted.

Customers with questions can contact Xfinity toll-free at (888) 799-2560 24 hours a day Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Easter time. More information is available on Xfinity's website at wwwdotinfinitydotcom/dataincident.

Re: Xfinity Comcast was hacked

Might take awhile if we have to change all our personal passwords and ........ Wondering if they will do something to help us out.

We have had Comcast/Xfinity for ages, but we do not have an online account, so I suppose we are okay.

@FancyPhillyshopper @They have your personal data including names, addresses, phone numbers, last four digits of SSN and maybe more. They haven't said whether your home internet would be affected or not, so keep watching for updated articles.

No email but all passwords have been deleted and users need to create a new one when they sign on.

Re: Xfinity Comcast was hacked

What a mess.  There is news that Xfinity dragged its feet for days before implementing a patch.

Xfinity says that the information the hackers accessed included usernames and hashed passwords.  For some customers, other information was also accessed by the hackers, such as names, contact information, last four digits of social security numbers, dates of birth and/or secret questions and answers.  Xfinity's analysis continues, so there could be more bad news to come.
