My doctor put me on thyroid medication and so far I've lost--without really trying to--18 lbs. About an hour ago I put on my shoes, and even they're getting loose! lol!

Oh, that's great. Glad the medication is working well for you. The thyroid being out of wack can effect so much of how you look and feel.

It's been good but now my doctor wants me to stop losing. I asked her why and she explained that after a certain point you stop losing fat and start to lose ... I think she said protein. And I really do need new clothes.

@GoneButNotForgotten Do you feel like you have more weight to lose? How long have you been on the medication? How is your blood testing re: all the thyroid levels? How do you feel? Can you tell a nice difference in how your health is? / in your symptoms? Does she want to lower your dose?

A few years ago the doctor I was seeing wanted to put me on thyroid meds. Don't know exactly why, wasn't having any problems. Anyway, I refused and she was surprised because she said most people lose weight on thyroid meds. Could use them now--LOL--but I've also read that it takes awhile to get the dosage right. Don't want to deal with multiple doctor visits.

@GoneButNotForgotten Yay for you! It might be muscle mass that gets lost after a certain point, as I recall reading at one time.

I've been out if for years since in my 20's, now 86. When the meds were too high made me nervous and lost weight. They had to regulate the mg.
though the years the they would continue to regulate because too much may me nervous and hair lost. The Dr. Takes blood test to check on proper dosage.
I liked it when it may me lose weight, but not nervousness and hair loss.
too little made me slugish.

Lifting weights, or exercising with resistance, will help prevent muscle loss. With age comes muscle loss anyway so it's important to exercise with weights/resistance as we get older.
ETA-
Walking on an incline on a treadmill is resistance exercise...even just 1% incline. I just recently increased mine to 15% incline and boy is that a workout.
