I would like to know what determines which profession should receive a tip, such as:
piano teachers?
plumbers?
person who bags my groceries?
tv cable repairman?
dentist?
my lawyer's secretary?
I am not sure where it begins, and where it ends. Is there a list somewhere?

Absolutely not! Tip are meant to supplement the wages of low wage earners. The dog trainer at $100/hr is not low wage.

This would be my feeling as well. And I tend to think that if you can afford $100/hr for the dog training you can afford the tip. I don't mean that to be snarky, I mean it seriously.
A trainer that is helpful, does a good job and comes to your house is worth a tip, to me.

I would not tip for the individual sessions, rather wait till you have accomplished the goals you wanted. Once the job is done, then you can decide if a tip is appropriate.

I would, to have a dog that isn't afraid, or to get through to them, helps owner and their pet. Was just thinking the other day, they may as well speak Russian at my house. We ask a lot of them, since they don't talk but bark. It is a great thing to conquer that bridge between human and animal. The love we both just seem to know.

I would definitely NOT tip the dog trainer. If you want to help her/him, write a good review on social media sites.

We don't tip much. Restaurants, groomer. Guess that's it. But a special service (oh yeah, beauty shop) to us, we do. That's my list.

I would tip anyone in any service type job that provided a service and did an exceptional job. My dog went to classes and also had some private classes at Petco and the trainer was excellent. I tipped the trainer as the training was well worth it. It's a way to show appreciation for great service and not limited to waitstaff. A lot of service occupations don't have a guaranteed income and often have down times when business is slow. Tipping is not mandatory and if you don't want to - don't. It's that simple.

No, we didn't tip our trainer.
We use a mobile vet who comes to our house for $40 above the usual 'office visit' charge, but we don't tip him either.

Eh, I'd throw her a bone.
...(if she worked for a company)
