Re: Would you complain about this?

Ford it's been what TWELVE DAYS! Girl, take some action to take care of yourself and get this resolved. OMG I would have put up with it maybe 2 days, I have zero patience for noise like that. This whole mess is making you sick!

No, it has been almost two months. At first it wasn't every day and I chalked it up to putting pictures and what-not on her walls. But it has gotten worse and worse. She is still hammering, she started late today at 3:40 PM and it's now 6 PM. Usually it's over by now, but whatever motivates her I don't care. She's not normal and I don't want to live here anymore.

My daughter just emailed me that the town those wonderful new apartments are located in is known for prostitution and drugs. Maybe that's why the rents are so low. What a waste.

I have to get my nerve up to call the police. I just have this sinking feeling that it's only going to make matters worse. Unless one lives right next door, it's considered a "nuisance" issue, and the police are not going to come here every day to stop her, and I truly believe that's the only thing that would.

Please, Ford. Call the police. Please?

CALL THE POLICE!!!! You are making yourself a victim, not her, since you refuse to do anything about her except complain to us.

Two months?! OMG that's so much worse. Just pick up the phone and call! No excuses, just do it. I don't know how you have kept any bit of sanity all this time.

With all due respect, how can matters get worse? I truly don't think it's a "nuisance issue." Did someone tell you that? Maybe it depends on the locale, but I know of cases in which this sort of thing was considered not only a noise ordinance problem but also harassing and abusive activity. The police are there to help, and unless you call them and explain and get their advice you're guessing what they might do or say. I've called them before, and they always were nice and wanted to help... I'm not sure why you hesitate to do this? Just because you call doesn't mean they will rush out and do something if you don't want them to act. But you can listen to their counsel. After they advise you, they'll as you what you want them to do (or not do).

Without that, in the meantime you're getting sicker and more upset. And all of us are getting upset, too.

It has been quiet for 15 minutes, so maybe she is done for the day.

I promise I will call the police tomorrow at the first sign of hammering. Maybe she didn't get the letter today. However, tomorrow is her last chance. Obviously the other neighbors are not going to do anything.

I am really angry at the management here and am going to write to the corporate owner tomorrow. I don't think the tenants here (especially because we are all old and many are sick) should have to be responsible for our own safety. This was promoted as a safe haven for seniors. And it was for four years. However it's obvious that when challenged, they are stepping out of the picture and not protecting us.

Thank you all for caring as much as you do. And please forgive my leaning on you and then not taking your advice. I was much stronger when I was young and healthy, and never would have put up with this. However, I have become very vulnerable now.

Don't move. You could have even worse neighbors. You have told the management there, she has an eviction notice, right? I would get a large fan or something to block some of the noise, until she moves.

(((Ford))). I'm so sorry. It seems clear that the property has an ineffective manager. And the owners need to be aware of this fact. You're correct, the burden shouldn't be yours (or the other tenants') other than to notify and perhaps document. Frankly, I can't imagine why in the world they haven't gone into to the apartment to see if she's damaging it -- the whole thing is incomprehensible. What they're doing is sacrificing the welfare of all the other tenants to avoid dealing with one offender.

I do hope you'll call the police as soon as the noise begins, because with luck the dispatcher will hear it over the phone while you're explaining. Please, take good care of yourself. I wish I were there to help. I really do.

As far as I know she never got an eviction notice. She was given a letter by management threatening eviction if the activity did not stop.

However, the Manager told me yesterday she had turned it over to the corporate owner, as she has never dealt with anything like this before. She said the only time she has evicted a tenant was for non-payment of rent.

As promised, I will call the police tomorrow. Again, I apologize to all of you for complaining to you, but I actually thought it was going to be handled by management. Unfortunately, that has not happened.
