Re: Would You Have Spoken Up?

I would not have said anything. None of my business if the grown woman can't fit in her seatbelt.

No, I would not have said anything. Who knows, she might have had some recent surgery and didn't feel comfortable wearing a seat belt. But I would have stayed out of it because I don't think it would have been any of my business to say anything...

Re: Would You Have Spoken Up?

That is a tough one...I guess if she went flying out of her seat, the woman could land on someone and hurt someone....so, I might have gone to the Stewardess and told her so she could gently tell the woman she had an extension.

No, I absolutely wouldn't have said anything to the attendant, though I might have mentioned to the passenger that perhaps the attendant could help her with the seat belt.

Re: Would You Have Spoken Up?

I would have asked nicely if I could help her. Then I would have put the blame where it belongs with the 'seatbelt'! Why don't the make seatbelts to fit most everyone? We live in a high tech society and do not expect to have a seatbelt that fits most everyone. It should be only a problem when a person does not fit in the seat. It is an equipment problem not a problem with the person.

I carry my own seatbelt extension which worked like a charm. Funny, I never thought I would use it but I did on my last trip. I got mine on Amazon and it saved me the embarrassment of asking. Even if you are a little plump all the seat belts may or may not fit.

I'm also overweight but have, so far, never had an issue with the seat belt. Honestly, I'm not sure what I would do if it doesn't fit - guess I never thought about an extender. Maybe this woman didn't realize there was an alternative. Depending on the cost, I think I'll go on Amazon now to pick one up.

I'm not an extensive traveler, but I have had the opportunity in the last couple of years to take a few foreign airlines (TAM and KLM). The seatbelts in both airlines were much longer than the US airlines that I'm used to.

Re: Would You Have Spoken Up?

I would have asked for a seat re-assignment and told the attendant afterwards.

She could have had arthritis in her hands and was unable to fasten the seat belt. Knowing me, I probably would have asked if I could help her.

I'm not sure if that's right or wrong, but it's me.

Or could have been dealing with some sort of muscular dystrophy problem -- weakness in grasping for example.

Re: Would You Have Spoken Up?

I would have mentioned it to the woman that she should ask the attendant for help since there seemed to be something wrong with her seatbelt and to the attendant if the woman didn't. She not only could cause herself to be injured but others near her as well. whatever the reason for the woman not asking for help, it could have affected so many others and was a safety concern to all.
