My DH used to work at a maximum security prison as Assistant Watch Commander in another state.  (Some of the stories would curl your hair!) Now he's a Team Leader at a juvenile facility here in Texas.

@homedecor1. Did you meet husband in prison, I did. I was not scared for my self but hated to hear radio calls and worried about him. Those tv shows are not an accurate picture. I did get uncomfortable going in to bowels of food service department.

No I picked him up on a bet with my best friends at a local bar! We still talk about it! We had many things in common at the time.

I worked as a hygienist (which turned out to be his Dds) I just graduated from college & had just started working there so I never met him.

At some point a few years after we married he suggested I needed to think about the my future 🙄A pension, medical coverage, etc (none of which I had working for a dds).

He worked in the County system I went to State. I was afraid at first but best thing I ever did - and 30 years ago woman were treated with respect both by male co-workers & inmates.  I finished at juvenile level -- that was the worse 5 years of my employment.

I was in intake and assignment section. I loved that job...I know crazy!!! Never a dull moment....

I had a friend whose sister was an RN in the Nevada prison system - I think in the Vegas area. She was paid extremely well to work in a place no one wanted to work in; I believe that's why she was doing it - like some take overseas jobs so they can save $$ for a down payment on a house where they couldn't if they worked a "regular" job. Not sure how long she lasted.

I would think prisons smell really bad as the toilets are in each cell and there's no open windows for air or ventilation.  Trying to wrap my brain around that but it's very difficult. The administrative offices I'm sure are located away from the stench but still just knowing it's there in the same building would nauseate me.
