I saw a piece on the news this morning that sent chills down my spine! It was about those workman that we all need from time to time, who we just assume are "checked out" by the companies we've dealt with for years. The air conditioning guy, the cable guy, the guy working on the kitchen update, etc. Well ... seems that there is NO law that requires these people to have a background check before hiring! They highlighted a real incident that happened when a babysitter watching a little girl went in another room for a minute. The workman that was there had exposed himself to her, wanted her to "play a little game", etc. He was a s&x offender and was in people's homes and around their children!!! The news stated there is a push now for strict legislation around background checks on these people. I mean, who do you trust now? I know so many older women who live alone, and need these people inside their homes for repairs, etc. They also mentioned never being in the home alone with any workmen, and letting them hear you on your cell stating they are there with you working on whatever. Geez ... what a world!
