I bought an Eddie Bauer jacket two years ago from Costco. It has some light down in the quilted puffy parts on the jacket. It's not a big puffer coat, but one of the 'slimmer' puffer jackets with less fill. Anyway, the sleeves at the wrist and around the neckline were getting dirty.
I decided rather than take the jacket to the cleaners, I would try one of the products out there to 'do-it-yourself' in the washer and dryer with tennis balls. This is what I purchased on Amazon. It had wonderful reviews by several thousand people, so I gave it a try. The jacket came out like brand new! It cleaned all of the dirt off completely! I have plenty left in the bottle for anytime it's needed again. If you need something with down in it cleaned, go for this! Cost was $12 shipped free to my house. P.S. Sorry for the big image. It's how it transferred.

I don't buy items made with down.

My husband was quite a hiker and was tired of having his L.L. Bean down jacket and his down sleeping bag, cleaned frequently.
He was going to wash it in Nikwax because he heard good things about the product.
We went all over - Eastern Mountain Sports, REI, all kinds of Sports Stores. I bet we went to about 10 stores before we found it.
He was pleased with the results. Bought extra bottles so he always had a supply.

I've always wash all my down items, blankets and jackets, in regular detergent in the washer and machine dried them. They launder beautifully.
Nothing warmer than down.

Thanks! I've been waiting for the brutal weather to ease up so I could take my down comforter to the cleaners. Guess ordering Nikwax from Amazon will do the job instead.
I've never laundered a comforter before. This will be a new experience and will be a lot less dependent upon warmer weather (which it doesn't sound like we're going to have in the next few weeks).
