@qualitygalwrote:Once read/heard that people who have "L's" in their names are successful in life. So what makes a person successful? Without using the words money or inheritance, what do successful people owe their success in life to?
Good networking skills, friends in high places, ability of being in the right place at the right time. That is if it is defined by monetary status.

I also think different people have different definitions of "success." I know a lot of people define it by how wealthy someone is in life. My personal definition is more related to the people we choose to have in our lives and the love we give and receive. All the money in the world can't make up for a life lacking in friends and family. A successful life one needs someone to share it with...

Yep, the more successful the more friends and family you have around you all with their hands outstretched wanting you to share.

I have had many discussions over the decades of the meaning of the word "success". The majority of those I have spoken with, start the conversation with, something connected to $$$$. A person's W2 forms seem to their definition of that word.
That is not, nor has it ever been, my definition of success. From reading many of these posts, it is pretty much what I said above.
I see it as a shame that so many feel one's success has to do with a job/career, and money.
My life I consider to be successful. Being happy with myself and those that have chosen to share a part of my life. I can truthfully say that my mother would be proud and happy about the life I have chosen to live. She wasn't one to use the term "successful", so neither will I.

Success and wealth are not synonymous. Depending upon what you deem successful,
Successful people:
are savers, not spenders
have a goal and intrinsic motivation
not afraid of hard work
not afraid of failure

If we are talking about job related success, Then there is one thing most possess. They never say it’s not my job. They use every opportunity to learn, and it usually pays off.

They're usually men and they've had encouraging charismatic adults and role models in their corner growing up, and similar support systems in adulthood - i.e. a wife who makes his family life successful, so he can have a successful work life.
