Wild Horses Sighted!

[ Edited ]

This is a screen shot of a video posted on X by Pamela Bonner. Shows what I know! They came to the spring for water. She was filming from the opposite direction I usually go to see them.

I am thrilled to see the wild horses. She thought it was two herds combined. My husband and I recognize these guys. I think they all belong to our herd.

Note the flags that are surrounding the area. They designate where larger trucks and equipment for firefighters are parking. I can't believe they came there. They may be seeking fresh, clean water from the underground spring. Cedar Creek down the street has fire gunk in it.

@goldensrbest Here is a screen shot of some of the elk. They are not easily intimidated. I know the cows are in the vicinity.

This is what the creek and other streams look like that are being fed by run off from the burn scars.

How encouraging to see the horses return. Glad there's some fresh spring water available. Hope it's enough, with other sites contaminated with the 'fire gunk.' That's a large herd with lots of needs.

They have to be confused by the changes. I feel sorry for every living animal, having to rapidly adapt to a new environment, post disaster, when they can't really comprehend what has happened.

Most animals, including humans, need time to handle change, being creatures comfortable with routine and habit. A period of adjustment is ahead for all, but there does seem to be a little light at the end of the tunnel.
