Our news just did a piece last night about the Spanish flu and how it compares to Covid-19.  One thing they said was that there were shutdowns during this time, however I have read many, many times that everything didn't stop because of that flu.  Also, more people died in the second wave of the flu than in the first wave.  And that flu went over a period of 2 years.   At that time, we didn't have the knowledge or treatments that we do today either.

Hygiene was much different also.  The simple task of washing hands makes a difference.

I am proudly wearing my camo-patterned fabric mask sewed by a Gold-Star mother.  They were sold by the local Gold-Star mothers group to support military families in need.  Attached to the outer packaging was the hand-written message "Be a patriot, wear this mask to keep Americans safe."

Good marketing!  Patriotism sells in many circles.

When it comes to supporting the fine ladies who have sacrificed their brave sons and daughters to keep America safe, I am a fairly easy sale.  Their mere existence represents patriotism for me.

I assess the situation and keep clean mask and gloves in my vehicle. Went to auto car wash yesterday. No one near me. Wore gloves to vacuum, but no mask. Wiped hands down with cleaning cloths afterwards. Wash both gloves and masks after each wear. When I'm around humans and distancing isn't possible, I wear a mask. I'm thinking about future travels where I'll wear a mask on the plane. Terrible circulation.

There's a contest for PSAs in New York that is very cool.  I watched all the submitted film entries and especially liked the one titled "THAT Guy".  We see "THAT Guy" everywhere these days.   It eventually will result in public disdain for those inconsiderate people not wearing a mask, much like how smokers are shunned.

I have a story to share.  Went to a casino yesterday because they just opened I it sounded like fun.  Well, here's the scoop.  You have to wear a mask to get in and play.  HOWEVER, if you smoke or order a cocktail, you can take your mask off until you finish.  WTF?  So, I'm sitting at my machine with my mask on while the person about 4 feet away is sitting with theirs off smoking for about 20 minutes and then pulls it back up.  I won't be going back but, to me, this is ludicrous.  I'm tired of the whole mask thing and will be glad when we can all remove them but this totally gives smokers and drinkers a pass.

How sad that a group of people find it appropriate to humiliate and shun others.  As already pointed out, there are medical conditions that would prevent some from wearing a mask.  What are we teaching our children.  Disgusting.

One thing we're not teaching our children is to jump to conclusions.  You don't wear a mask if you have a medical condition that prevents it.  The ad is to raise awareness among the people who can wear a mask, and aren't.

If you can't wear a mask because of a medical condition, you really need people to  keep their social distance AND wear a mask.

As far as 'shunning' smokers go, children learn at their parents knee to avoid second hand smoke, but everyone  welcomes smokers into their home, just so long as they don't smoke.

I don't get how either of these things are disgusting.

So how are you identifing those that are unable to wear a mask because of a medical condition from those that you choose to humiliate in public?

@CrazyDaisy Two things - I don't care why someone is not wearing a mask.  I do social distancing with everybody, masked or maskless.  I wear a mask to protect me, and I am also glad it protects everybody else.  In that same spirit, I keep my distance.

Secondly, I don't go around choosing who I'm going to humiliate on the street in any way, shape or form.  That would not end well for me in the long run.  It also might lead to a greater viral load in the area - in my area - and I'd deserve it too, for being such a snot.

My advice to anyone who can't wear a mask and has to venture out is to focus on the vast majority of people who will not bother you at all about it and forget about the few morons, if any, who do.
