So, what is the answer? People wanted to know why a post or thread was deleted, despite the fact that we usually knew or had a good idea why. What wording could the mods use that posters who are upset would be okay with?

They could take the "reason" straight out of the QVC Community Standards, using the same language:

• Be respectful and courteous to others, even if you disagree with them. Do not use language or post content that is unkind or in poor taste or engage in personal attacks.

• Do not initiate or engage in political discussions or discussions of a controversial nature.

• Do not engage in harassing, threatening, abusive, violent, discriminatory (racist, sexist, etc.), hostile, or defamatory language or behavior that would be considered inappropriate by any rational person. Do not use language or post content that is profane, sexually explicit, obscene, pornographic, vulgar, or offensive.

• Do not invade the privacy of others and do not use third-party copyrighted or trademarked content in anything you post.

• Do not re-post deleted messages.

• Do not post web addresses (URLs) for, or links to, outside sites that violate these guidelines.

• Do not post personal or any other information that you do not wish to have made public.

• Do not post any Personally Identifiable Information including, but not exclusive to, first or last names, address, telephone number, email address, social security number, QVC account number, or birthday.

• All postings must be in English.

• Keep your postings relevant to the topic. This makes it easier for others to follow the conversation.

• Do not bump messages.

• Do not flood or spam, post chain letters or junk mail, or engage in other behavior that could disrupt the Community features or this site.

*************

If it's not on QVC's list of no-no's, then it shouldn't be deleted.

Unless I missed it, I don't see anything about "teasing the moderator" as a justifiable reason for the deletion of a post.

And, since no one can "hear" the tone of voice on a written thread, I don't know how that could possibly be a good reason for a deletion.

Honestly, I liked  it before there was no reason, and we all usually knew why. No interacting, no reason, just zap it. It was like the man behind the curtain said so and that was it.

Now expecting an explanation has created a mess. Everyone feels singled out if their post is the one to get pulled.

I've had innocent threads poofed because a mod stated it was religious (which is wasn't) or political (which it wasn't again) However, since no one knows it was your post because the poster who starts the thread or makes a comment in a thread and it is "removed" is also removed from the post. You just see the mod's name. Please don't take this the wrong way, but this is how I am reading your post. No one would know this is an issue unless you bring it up so the calling out was something that you, yourself, brought attention to that fact. And perhaps the mods don't like being poked at and made fun of either. I agree that the "tone" comment was a bit too much, but you just admitted that you like to make fun of the mods - and you've been doing it for years. If you felt attacked and humiliated by that one comment, perhaps they felt the same way over the course of years that you made fun of them? Am I reading that correctly? Perhaps I misunderstood that part of poking at them and making fun of them - who is them?

@I had trouble understanding this as well. And @gardensia, I am only using this as an example and not just your situation, because others have done this too.  Posters can be sensitive - nothing wrong with that, by the way, -but one needs to apply this to the moderators as well. There is only so much taunting or "jesting" that any individual can take - unless they are psychopaths or sociopaths.

I totally see you point and I'm pretty sure the moderators aren't sitting in room rubbing their hands, dreaming up ways to ruin this place. I know they've been given a new set of rules to enforce and while we may disagree about the way in which they've chosen to implement them, we all agree that in the end they can do as they please. That said, I've been here more than ten years and can't ever remember having a post poofed. Ever. Just two weeks ago what I said would have fine, but now it's "rude and hateful"? Dressing down a user as that moderator did to me, is just wrong. It just is. And if bringing it up here (as well as directly to them as I have) stops this from happening to someone else here, that's not a bad thing.

I'm hoping everyone (and that includes me) takes a deep breath when this holiday weekend is over and stands down. The temperature is turned up way too high for what is just a silly little shopping forum.

I remember seeing frequent posts saying we wished we knew the reasons for the removal of threads/posts.  "Please, 'Webbie,' tell us when posts are missing and tell us why," we said.  Now that they made the change, and seemed to give us what we asked for, we're seeing complaints about the fact that they are trying to tell us the reasons.  Or we're unhappy because we don't agree with the way they state the reasons.  I'm almost to the point of thinking the old method was better...  a post or thread vanished, we often wondered about it, but there was no comment -- well-phrased or not -- calling attention to the missing posts.

Gardensla, several of us mostly or only posted at ViewPoints and are quite used to having our posts poofed with no explanation whatsoever. Just commenting...

Yep, dooBdoo, we got what many of us wanted regarding deleted posts. It may have been better when the post just disappeared.

This is true, @tansy.

I wanted to add something I posted on another thread.

I'm beginning to suspect at least one of the reasons for the changes toward more strict moderation.  The new platform includes the posts from all the forums on the "main" forum page, the best I can tell.  That means the threads that used to be relatively hidden (unless one purposefully sought out the sub-forums like Viewpoints, for example) are now prominently displayed on the main "Forums" page.  Hence, the "lively and spirited" discussions can't be isolated the way they were before.  Just a random thought.

I just wanted to say that I thought the forum redesign was more recent than 2004 because the separate forums for tv, movies, books, and music weren't here that long and also electronics and ebooks.

2010. Keyai who heads up social for the Q, mentioned that in one of his moderator updates.
