To those who are reminding me that National Parks are not free: I didn't express my self clearly as I know they are not free. I should have said that I believe it should be a National Park. AND I believe that it should be free admission.

When we were in D.C. a few years ago...almost everything was free. I feel the same about the 9/11 Memorial.

i must say that i cried my eyes out watching what i could of the dedication. it reminded me of the tremendous national sadness we felt - it all came back in a rush to me. it is one of the events that people will always remember where they were when it happened. a very tragic day for those directly attacked, but also for the nation at large. and i agree: admission should be free. cut one of those stupid projects we spend money on that i read about and let everyone in.

The admission price is steep, but if it provides for the memorial to be self-supporting I'm all for it. To make it a National Park, it's functioning and financial support would be at the whim of congress and that is the last thing I would want to see happen.

Whatever the cost I can't think of anywhere more inspirational and uplifting to honor our fallen heroes.

For a family of 4 it equals a cheap handbag, one of those face scrubbers or Wen, dinner and movie tickets.

It's all about priorities.

When I went a few years ago there was no charge. It is mostly outdoors and it is absolutely moving to see the ""chairs"" designed for the adults and smaller chairs for the children with the reflecting pool. The Catholic Church across has a memorial also which moved me to tear.

I wouldn't want to view that stuff and definitely not if I had a loved one die in that tragedy. I don't understand the need to publicize every tragedy and have museums for them. A memorial wall or plaque would seem to be enough without having all that stuff showcased. But I guess it's people's desire to view and know every detail of tragedies which I think is morbid.

As for the remains that were unable to be identified - I think they should be in a separate area and not open to the public and just available to the families of those who were never identified. At any rate I sure hope the immediate families are never charged.
