Re: Why do you come on forums?

So well said, I think you speak for many of us, I know you do for me & I thank you. I too like to know 'real' experiences versus google, it is much better. And, the 'love' I feel at times is deep, like a sisterhood, if you will.Heart

Re: Why do you come on forums?

Once in a while, I like to see product reviews but I really have my own views about what I wear but might have a question about color or how something fits, runnng large or small, how it looks on a petite frame etc.  I started reading the forum after I retired when I couldn't sleep at night.

At first, I enjoyed learning different viewpoints about controversial topics.  I felt we may be the same demographic or similar but different parts of the Country.  But, I learned how intolerant and nasty some can be when views are different than their own.   However, I also found how supportive and sweet many posters are when they encounter difficult & painful situations other posters may face.

I enjoy the posts like "songs/movies that make you cry"  childhood memories etc.  I also like the book club because I've found many new authors and learned what a cozy mystery is.  TV/movies I enjoy discussing plots of my favorite TV shows.

The one time I was the original poster, I sincerely was interested about thoughts re how/what kids are taught in Ivyleague schools....well, that turned ugly and one poster had to "leave the Board" because I insulted her school, her relative who worked there etc when I was only quoting a newspaper article which was in general.   I never posted again only in response to others....some are really overly sensitive and as said, intolerant

Entertainment and amusement. A few posts here and there about travel, sports and fashion. That's about it.

@Sookie Says@  For a personal reply, just hit  the reply button under the person's post.  After the reply box comes up, hit the @ sign.  A list of names of posters will come up.  The one you want will be at the top of the list, so just select it, and voila!  They will get a notification after you post, so they can read it.

Re: Why do you come on forums?

I first discovered this board years ago when jewelry was the main seller on QVC.  I liked to read the reviews after the Gold Rush days.  Back then, more topics were allowed.  I still enjoy it here.

Re: Why do you come on forums?

I found it while my mom was a dementia patient. Visiting for daily became so stressful that I needed some kind out outlet that didn't require any thought on my part. I found this forum and didn't participate for a long time. By the time I had the nerve to comment, I felt like everyone were my friends! Of course no one really knew me and treated me rudely. I learned to tread lighter until people were comfortable with me. They had no idea I had been reading their posts for 2-3 years! It's often interesting. Sometimes tedious or irritating. Great amusement throughout the threads!

Re: Why do you come on forums?

I like reading different opinions on various subjects. Those that I’m more familiar with, I can offer advice or receive new information.

There are many “forum friends” here. I can recognize their names and almost predict their reactions (good or bad) when certain subjects are posted. There are some posters I look forward to hearing from and a few I know to avoid at all costs.

In all, the forums are a positive experience, a way to express my feelings and opinions and hopefully be accepted in a welcoming environment.
