This place can be toxic, but the toxicity IS avoidable. The more it's avoided, the more people who bring it will go elsewhere to find people to attack. I will admit that, often, I just shake my head and get out for a while. But the constant back and forth just plays along and gives them what they want - to make others miserable like they are.

I couldn't agree more, this is what I try to do.

well, why do people watch all those horrible housewives shows and those of the same ilk? Because people,and I will say mostly women, like to see drama either real or fake. How many people would watch a wholesome show with a milquetoast dad, June Cleaver wife and boring kids? Scrolling through all the categories every day on these forums, it doesn't take but a minute to see which ones will have the most traffic and responses. Titles with hosts names (OMG- LISA, Jill's shoes, Carolyn's kidding if she's a large), just for instance, people are dying to click on those and make a remark. And because people in any situation have differing opinions, those opinions lead to out and out cyber fights and bullying. It amazes me that I read about why our political leaders can't get along when right here on this board a thread about lipstick can lead to a massacre.

And, regular readers here are smart enough to see that their are groups of buddies who stick together and as if of one mind, gang up on another poster or groups of posters.

Benign threads that might be worth a discussion are usually passed by because readers know there won't be any controversy there. People get bored with the mundane so in the end they would rather have a rip-roaring discussion than talk about something boring. Lisa is the most commented on because people tend to either love her or hate her but one thing for sure, she does stir up conversations. Dan Wheeler on the other hand is the most boring person I have every watched on television so he generates very little interest.

Arguing is no different than a debate EXCEPT that when done anonymously with no one moderating the debate, it turns into personal attacks. It's not a question of people who like to argue have found their happy place, there just isn't anyone to intervene unless or until it gets reported and disappears.

I don't start posts very often because of the never-ending attacks, but when I do, they're usually positive.

I posted three a couple of days ago, one was good news about a cancer breakthrough, the second was a cute video of "Adele Dazeem" (LOL) singing with Jimmy Fallon, and the third was "Travoltify Your Name."

Pretty good responses, especially for the name game Smile I think people do like positive posts, we just don't get them very often.

Maybe because we all want to be liked...so the negative posts sting. I try to treat others how I want to be treated and no longer worry about those who don't like me. I like to spend my time here with those I enjoy but will take just so much and join in if I feel someone is being unfairly treated.
