I love a button fly, but you don't see it much anymore.  I think Levis still offers them.

The thing is, we don't NEED a fly. When you think what they were invented for, it just seems silly. A zipper is ok, but to look like a fly front, well, it baffles me.

I like jeans but then I also like the look, including the zipper front.

Re: Why do our jeans............

@Judaline    I am a person who tucks my shirts in, wears a belt, and only wears a high waist or natural waist style jeans.

So I like the fly front zipper and button--or button fly front.

I normally wear a blazer, or less seldom, an Irish sweater, or a tunic with jeans.

I wear tunics occasionally but I don't think  anyone notices the "bump" of the button.

I had one pair of the Hollywood pants with the side zipper (Bob Mackie's from the Q as a matter of fact) but they were strictly for dressier occasions.  They finally wore out after many years of use.

I don't think any people look at us as closely or with such a critical eye as as we think they do unless we take no care in how we dress at all.

I think the fly front, zipper and button is just the classic jean configuration and will remain the standard.

Another thought I had was that true jeans are a heavy material so I don't think an invisible side zipper would work anyway.

I didn’t know there was such a thing  as jeans with a side zipper.  To me that's not jeans. And even though I own a pair of pull on, I don't really consider those jeans either.

Re: Why do our jeans............

I refuse to buy any jean without a button/fly closure.  I can't stand the sight of those pull on jeans. I prefer the closure over the zipper.  Some jeans just have a zipper and it look weird.  I'm very picky.  Also the size.  It has to have a waist size.  I won't buy jeans through QVC if they have a dress size.  I wear a 25 in jeans.  Not size 2 or 0.

Jeans are a style, just as Jean jackets are a style. All denim jackets aren't Jean jackets and denim pants without a fly aren't jeans. They are just denim pants.

Re: Why do our jeans............

I never liked side zippers on pants and back zippers on skirts.  I'm very happy that we don't see them any more.  I don't mind the fly front on jeans, I like wearing belts with my jeans.  With my weight loss, I can tuck my shirts in now.  Women With Control has jeans that don't have a fly.  There's a wide waistband.  I have a pair that I wear if my top is sheer and I want a smooth front.
