Why do Asians avoid 4?

I was watching HGTV last night, actually early this AM. The one house they looked at had a 4 in the address and the Asian woman commented to her husband about the negative aspect Asian's see in the number 4. I have never heard about 4 being a bad number so I need enlightened. I'm happy that there is no 4 in my address but, alas, 4 is in my phone number.

No, I don't want to get friendly with Google over it.
