Re: Why are eggs so darn expensive lately??

In my area eggs are .99-1.50 for the basic variety, and I can get organic for $3-6.  I can't complain.

I am in .california, and stopped by Trader Joes to get eggs.  I get the super jumbo, organic, vegetarian fed, cage free brown eggs...they were 3.79?  Thats pretty cheap.  My local Raleys sells them fro more, for smaller eggs.

It is correct they had a salmonella contamination crisis, and they dumped a million eggs I think.  Are you in one of the states that has  the problem?

What about ground beef? (Hamburger).  It seems as though the price 'shot up' in no time at all.

[ Edited ]

I buy my eggs from a local farmer.  They are pasture raised.  I usually pay about $4 a dozen.  These eggs are like nothing you can get in the grocery store...the yolks are a deep gold/orange.  Delicious.

We recently found another source for eggs.  This is a farmer in Idaho who ships to our local co-op.

This farmer does not get rid of his chickens when they're past their laying phase.  He keeps them and lets them live out their lives in happy chickendom on his little farm.

I'd much rather buy eggs like this.  If you read about how those 99 cent a dozen eggs are raised, you probably wouldn't eat them anymore, especially if you're an animal lover.
