Physicians and Healthcare professionals have been saying that since the virus first broke out Before it even left China. We have had the information about face masks out there, everywhere and yet some people's minds are just "fixed" on it. They cannot get past it. They also cannot accept that Covid 19 is not like Ebola or the Plague. It's a flu virus, it's not deadly. The mortality rate is just slightly more than the regular flu. Which no one seems to care about.

Medical workers are facing supply shortages
Most seriously, the shortages are hitting medical workers—even those directly treating coronavirus patients.
In early February, the director-general of the World Health Organization warned that the fight against coronavirus was being hampered by “widespread inappropriate use” of protective gear by those who are not front line medical staff, and he cautioned against stockpiling masks.
“Demand is up to 100 times higher than normal, and prices are up to 20 times higher,” he said. “Global stocks of masks and respirators are now insufficient to meet the needs of WHO and our partners.”

130 people die in the US every day from opioids. Hoarding masks is a little nuts.

It makes perfect common sense to worry about getting sick if you are not in condition to make it through ANY illness very easily.
Plenty of people are in that boat.
Spreading bacteria and viruses is something that we can, to at least some extent, control by avoiding contact and exposure and transmission.
Why is that not common sense?

Are health care workers required to work if they are not propery protected? I would think they would call in sick.
@KarenQVC Where are you getting that information from?
And the masks, especially if not stored properly, do expire.

I was just at the grocery store, being very careful not to touch my face but I don't know who touched what I purchased and what I'm bringing in my home.
Tomorrow, I'll be attending a Business Meeting with over 100 people, it is a mandatory meeting. How many people there will be sick and not know it yet.
I've been taking my lunch but there are times when I have to stop and eat out.
I just saw an interview with a man who tested positive for the virus. He says he feels fine and has no visible symptoms. He has to get two consecutive negative tests before he is released from the hospital.

People who die from drug overdoses shouldn't be placed in the same category as those who contract a potentially deadly illness through their jobs, especially if they're health care workers who are trying to save the lives of others

I don't see why everyone is worried about this virus, the two guys at the top are telling us we have nothing to fear. Mixed messaging and now it's a crisis.

I haven't heard "nothing to fear".
I think underplaying is as bad as calling it "apocalyptic".
Neither is correct.

Concern, caution and proper hand washing are the key not hysteria over face masks or lack of them. We've had shortages during 9/11, Anthrax and H1N1 & health care workers were the priority. Surgical supply compainies will not sell to consumers. Improper mask hygiene or use of a surgical mask sold at Walmart is of no value. There are endemic plans in place & they are not publicized for obvious reasons. Check NIH and CDC websites for up to date information. The plans are in place just the disease changes because with all viruses, the preventive measures are the same.
