It's just another selling tactic. The goal is to create a sense of urgency to influence the consumer to purchase whatever they are trying to sell. This method is used by anyone or any business whose objective is to sell. Nothing new or unusual.

@CAcableGirl2 wrote:@Jordan2 I think it could be for a couple of reasons.
1 - they are trying to get impulse buyers to order
2 - people put it in their cart and never check out
3 - the vendor has more available
A former host explained this @Jordan2 , when she had a total sell out on her program.
She advised those who'd missed out to check back in 10 minutes, again in 30 minutes, etc repeating until about 48 hours.
As a host, she held off ordering until after the show, and often ran into her size or color being sold out.
She'd learned many shoppers will put something into their cart, then later log off without following thru with the purchase.
The item then shows up back in the inventory.
As far as ordering and then canceling within a few minutes, that is allowed with a few of my orders. (Shipped by manufacturer)
Can't think of that host's name. Pretty, young, dark hair, had a daughter.

That is one thing I hated about sales. I preferred to calmly give information and let the buyer make an informed decision whether or not to buy but no they made us push so hard and bend the truth into a pretzel. 😞

I hate when the hosts say you need to order now, thy're going fast! It's like you should trip over yourself trying to put your order in! The only thing I can think of is maybe people decide they don't want the product, take it out of their cart or cancel the order. I feel it's deceptive of QVC to do this.
Sometimes people order and then cancel. I don't see your point for this post. If you wanted the lipstick and you ordered it, what is the problem?
Yes I was able to purchase the lipsticks, but I don't appreciate the hard sell, you better order it now, you may not get it if you wait It's the old if you snooze you lose.

@Jordan2 @You don’t appreciate the hard sell but it works...even on you so that is why they continue.I agree that it is frustrating if you don’t know that fact and think you missed out only to find it available online.

Kerstin kept saying how popular it was and you'd better grab it as it was getting so limited, blah, blah. After the show, I checked and it was still available in every size. QVC doesn't miss a trick when it comes to raking in those orders.
@Kachina624 I saw that. LOL
So many times a color is sold out and when you look at the item on their website it's there in all sizes, all colors. LOL
And I'm talking immediately, so it's not like they are sitting in carts all over the place and immediately are back up in stock in a flash.
"Getting limited" takes aim at the impulse buyers and those who have to have it whether they really want it or not just because another customer may get it.
Those customers do exist.
And you know when they say such and such color is limited, that is the color they can't get rid of. LOL
