I think it's unrealistic to create a drama filled thread and not expect people to comment.  I also do not like to see an OP get into a huff over something they themselves have created.

Take responsibility for your own threads and stop complaining or better yet stop creating them in the first place.

LOL ... so true.   People "who just want to vent" shouldn't vent on message boards.  What did they think would happen .. everyone would ignore their posts?

If someone REALLY wants to "just vent", they can always vent in an email to themselves.  That way, no one else reads and comments, but they "got it off their chest".

As for advice ... I'm guessing many times they are just looking for validation for what they have already decided to do.

Personally, I know I can be blunt, so when people have asked my opinion on something I sense may be an issue, I always preface my opinion by telling them to please DO NOT ask my opinion unless you REALLY want to know what I think.   I've never been a "yes man".  Well, actually, a yes-woman.

Some posters come here thinking they're right and expect most to agree with them. When that doesn't happen, they get mean. Some, on the other hand, welcome ALL kinds of advice.

@Tinkrbl44   I suspect even then the person would wonder why nobody was agreeing with her.  LOL

I post as a realist; I question all sides of a situation and look at things (perhaps annoyingly to some) from all perspectives.

And some give lectures on tolerance while being intolerant themselves. Yes, I know. We've all been though this meta meta discussion many times before. Whatever I accuse you of doing, I somehow could be accused of myself. And whatever you accuse me of doing, you could somehow be accused of yourself. It's all completely circular.

Yes indeed. Some people don't have the stomach to be brow beaten, insulted, or go back to high school mean girls time. No one has the right to think that is just "advice", and it is against the rules here.

It's also done by posters who don't even read everything the OP writes. They seemingly just can't wait to pounce

@Peaches McPhee at least they come back to respond.  My pet peeve is when you try to help a poster who has asked for advice and/or help, and then not only do you not get a thank you, you don't even get a "heart" at minimum.  And many times, the poster seems to disappear into the wind with no response whatsover! lol

ETA:  In response to comments after mine, I did not mean to thank each poster individually or after each comment.  A general thank-you post by the OP near the end of the thread is appreciated, and I think it demonstrates good manners when people have taken the time to write a response.

Re: Why Do People Ask For Advice...

Because it's really not the answer or advice they were looking for, it's probably the opposite of what they wanted to hear.
