Just as an example, I recently asked my sister for her opinion on a couple of new hairstyles I'm considering.  (She hasn't replied yet.)  After reading all these posts I began to ask myself why I asked her opinion when ultimately it's my decision in the end, and I think that because I was truly on the the fence, I just wanted her opinion to sway my decision one way or the other.  Kind of like flipping a coin and either being disappointed or happy at the outcome.  Which I have discovered is an excellent way of making up my mind about certain things! 

So if she says she likes one hairstyle over the other, I'll either say "yea!" or "oh, no".  Decision made!  Anyway, that's usually why I ask for advice.  It just aids in my decision-making process.
