Re: Why All the Electronic Shows?

I would venture to guess that the electronics they're pushing the most are the oldest versions. Getting rid of these high-markup products, that have been taking up valuable space in the warehouses for the longest period of time, is a win-win for them.

Re: Why All the Electronic Shows?

I think 3 days of electronics is stupid. I wouldhave been buying gifts but will not watch until something else is  on!

Re: Why All the Electronic Shows?

I think they always do this, this time of year.  As mentioned I'm sure it's a money-maker because they get nearly-obsolete computers for a small price and sell them for more than they're worth to people who don't realize you can get payments pretty much everywhere, including all the manufacturer websites, AND pay the same or less for much newer technology.

They convince people that it's the best and cheapest and I think that enough people just blindly believe them and jump in.

If that weren't enough, we'll start seeing all the complaints, in a couple of weeks, from people who were assured a certain delivery date and it's not even shipped yet, etc etc etc.

I read that electronics and jewelry weren't doing well on shopping channels.

Maybe they need to stop trying to compete in markets where they aren't competitive.

Jusr my opinion!

Not everyone has easy access to B&M stores or wants the hassle of getting there early and fighting any crowds. There are also many who still will not use on-line shopping such as Amazon. They stick with what they know best-shopping channels. They know the ins and outs of home delivery, returns and possibly easy pay.

EXACTLY! Why is it that some people can't grasp that concept?!

Re: Why All the Electronic Shows?

I would sooner purchase electronics on-line from either Best Buy or Target.  The pricing is better and I find that QVC puts in a lot of unneeded frills, jacking up the price, particularly with their computers.

I'm surprised the OP doesn't realize that electronics are a big money maker.   They have the highest mark ups.

As a previous post mentions, QVC did not do well with electronics and jewelry in their last quarter.  No wonder as over-priced as most things are.

[ Edited ]

Personally, I prefer selecting electronic and appliance items in person where I can 'test drive' the item and know exactly what I'm getting and what to expect. Sometimes, even doing things this way, the item has to ship, but sometimes I can carry it home with me or arrange local delivery...

More to the point, while many are assuming this tedium is programmed into oblivion because electronics are big sellers, there's a fair amount of data, some of it specific to QVC, to indicate electronics sales are rather flat... My guess is, as others have suggested, this is nothing more than an all-out effort to clear out the warehouses... Regardless, I'm not interested (just as I wasn't last year or the year before that and so on...), I find it boring, and there's no way I'm watching any of it. I'm not buying any of it either.

terrier3,

1 thing I know for sure is that they are selling older models of many devices. I know the TV sets/some of their DVD players and some of their cell phones are not as up to date as those on the BIG online stores or some of the B and M stores.

When I buy electronics, most times I am willing to pay a little more for the newest models available, depending on what features or hardware has changed. Just my observance.
