Re: Who is in the path of the pending NE snow storm?

[ Edited ]

Sending prayers to your dear husband and you Kathys Pet.

I was just coming to type we in PA are now also in a state of emergency for the pending storm. But i see Sunshine posted it.

PS) Also- Now it was on the news people are stealing snow blowers as people have been getting them out to check and let them sit to go in the house. So keep them locked up! (Ours in always in the garage but I know some keep them in sheds etc.)

I think they are calling for over a foot here in Philadelphia, but that might change as we get closer.

Re: Who is in the path of the pending NE snow storm?

our county has already cancelled school for tomorrow! i dont think the snow is even supposed to begin until sometime after 6pm! they went in two hours late today because of that clipper systen that went through last night. it left only an inch of snow, but the roads were kind of icy.

@KathyPet sending you positive thoughts and prayers for your husband. i hope he takes a turn for the better and that he can be home with you again soon.

I'm in Nova Scotia.  We will be watching Boston to see how that goes.  Supposed to start here Saturday night into Sunday.  No one giving amounts yet.  Too early.  Stay safe everyone!  This is starting to look like last winter...sure hope not!  LM

What  part of NS are you in?  I've been to the Celtic Colours festival and am a big fan of Cape Breton music. Beautiful countryside Smiley Happy

I am in Halifax.  Everyone loves Cape Breton!!!  We live in a beautiful part of the country!  LM

I am in N Michigan and was at a Natalie McMaster concert this fall and their backdrop was scenes of the island.

@ballyk, thanks for the shout out.  My mother is from Cape Breton, a place called Inverness where they have recently built a world class golf course on the ocean.  It is called Cabot Links.  Great place!  Check it out if you come again.  Inverness is very close (ten minutes) to Mabou, the home of The Rankins who you must know if you know Natalie MacMaster.

Natalie MacMaster comes from a long line of fiddlers and is considered royalty on the Nova Scotia Celtic music scene.

Stay safe in the storm.  It is reported to be south of us this weekend so we are only getting a few cms of snow.  Wonderful, as we usually get hammered!  LM

Re: Who is in the path of the pending NE snow storm?

January 21- It is not often that NOAA will post a map like this showing an 80% chance of Baltimore and Washington to get over 12 inch of snow. But it looks like the bullseye will be right in the heart of our region. The worst will be Saturday, as the wind maps are crazy! See them below. Also, I have been watching the first of the high resolutions models now catching on to the arrival of the snow, and it appears it is back on to the first call. I want to add the caveat that there could be virga on the leading edge, but I would still plan for late afternoon and evening. Once it gets going, it will increase in a hurry. Faith in the Flakes

Quick bullet points:

  • Saturday Morning will be the worst!
  • Most will wake up Saturday to over 6 inches of snow on the ground. Some pushing over 10 inches. Then snow mixes with sleet/rain near or east of the bay. Then back to snow into early Sunday. West of I-95 should stay all snow.
  • Winds will be at blizzard force. See the maps below.
  • Snow Type: Heavy and wet with temps close to freezing. It will clump, stick, and weigh down trees/power lines.
  • Power Outages: Combine the type of snow with high winds, and lights out! Literally for many.
  • Snow starting sooner…. Please plan accordingly

@KathyPet, been where you are, done what you're doing. Just keep putting one foot in front of the other and pray for a miracle. My prayers for the same miracle are already lifted up in your and Tom's names. Bless you mightily and hugs.

Re: Who is in the path of the pending NE snow storm?

@KathyPet just wanted to tell you that our thoughts and prayers will be with you and your family. I am so sorry that you both have to go through this. You sound like one heck of a strong woman. Hugs to you!

As for the weather, I live in Raleigh and we are supposed to get 1-3 inches of snow, but we are supposed to get ice too which can be worse than the snow. Of course there literally wasn't one loaf of bread left when I had to stop by the store to pick up a few things. I am from Buffalo so I am used to snow but people here go crazy even expecting the smallest amount and the store shelves are bare within hours.

Re: Who is in the path of the pending NE snow storm?

looks like our area.....baltimore region.....has been bumped up to two feet plus! i dont mind the snow, but i am definitely worried about the winds. it is supposed to arrive a bit earlier than expected......late afternoon versus early evening. one to two inches per hour is expected for part of the storm.

i was listening to the weather channel. they are saying little rock had a record snowfall.....7 inches. they are also saying there is some lightening and thundersnow in the storm areas.

stay safe and stay warm everyone! keep in touch and hope your power doesnt go out. i have everything charge up, including my halo portable chargers.

Re: Who is in the path of the pending NE snow storm?

I hope and pray all of you in the storms path will be safe. Thank you for all the replies.

They just upped our totals in PA and moved the line up my way so it will be somewhere? over a foot. (ugh!).

I got mad this AM about my(grown) kids boss. My son works year round six days a week (in manufacturing) and his boss is complaining hes not coming in tomorrow (for over time). Uhm a state of emergency is declared, IMO plants should be closed! I hope my son sticks with it and stays home. Otherwise he will be stuck at work sleeping on a chair! (He has done that before and ended up with bad back pain).

Some bosses can be so inconsiderate! I can fully understand emergency personel workiing, I get that. But manufacturing and other businesses should be closed during a storm with over a foot of snow IMO!
