Dad taught my mom, my cousins, my sister, my nephews how to drive.
I'll never forget him teaching me how to parallel park. A Sunday in a shopping lot (when stores were closed), he put a garbage can on one end and stood on the other. I had to parallel park without knocking the can over or crushing his feet.
Not too much stress.
My sister and I were not allowed to go for our license until we could back out of our narrow driveway. At one point I could do it with my eyes closed.
I also took Driver's Ed in high school. The four us girls (Catholic school) drove that poor teacher crazy.

@FlyersGirl wrote:@Eileen in Virginia I didn't know that there was more than one! I found this info when I googled:
"The Bazaar of All Nations in Horsham PA was an offshoot of the Bazaar in Upper Darby/Clifton Heights. In total, there were 4 Bazaars at one time or another (Upper Darby (the original), North Philadelphia, Horsham, and Bristol). These other Bazaars are shown and mentioned briefly in the film though not extensively covered as many of the shops had the same owners from the Upper Darby Bazaar and they lasted only a few years."
@FlyersGirl That's amazing! We had the documentary on a VHS tape years ago, but I gave it to my sister. I don't remember the film mentioning the other Bazaars, but I wasn't really focusing on them. When we were kids, we'd go there with a couple of dollars and have a great time. When we arrived, my mother would tell us when and where to meet her, then we'd go off on our own to see what they had that week. It was great!

I didn't drive until after I was married at age 29. DH enrolled me in the adult driver ed classes at the schol where he taught. Took my road test and got my license. I seldom drive, but have kept my license up to dat all these years.

The same drivers ed teacher that taught my mom when she was in school.

Driver's Ed teacher in the summer before 10th grade. We had classroom instruction and then 6 weeks of behind the wheel.

My brother.
We lived on a farm. He "fixed up" an old car of my grandfather's and we drove it in a field (actually had a circle "racetrack" to use). He was 16, I was 13. It was more fun than actually learning but had to shift gears. A carefree time that was so cool; all of his male friends showed up (on bikes) to drive in the field too.

I didn't learn to drive until around 1990 (I was in my late 40s) - called local driving school - they sent an instructor. I was living in the suburbs temporarily - my father gave me his car (he bought a new one) to be able to get around.
I really, really, really don't like to drive.
In 1994, I was living in Manhattan - didn't need a car so I gave my car to my niece - and haven't driven since.
I kept renewing my license ... but when my license came up for renewal last year - I changed it to a non-driver ID Card. To renew a license is $64.50. A Non-driver ID is $6.50.

My father taught me to drive and he had patience like no one else. I look back on that and wonder how he did it. Especially when going through our 2 kids learning to drive. LOL
But he was so patient and evidently a pretty good driver. He drove most of his life and put a lot of miles behind him. When he passed away he had never had an accident. Not even a fender bender. We all marvel at that accomplishment.

When DH and I were engaged I spent weekends at future in-laws. One of my 1st weekends in farm country I saw an 11/12 yr, old boy going up the road on a rather big tractor, alone.
I said something about it and everyone was like, "all the kids do it."
I grew up where you got your permit at 16, you drove for awhile (actually learned) and then took your test.
Up here the kids got their permit and frequently took their test the next day.
I told my future DH that no kid of mine was driving at 12. And they didn't.
