I haven't posted here for a long time, but I do peek in occasionally and know that you all have a wealth of information. Here's my issue: my mother lost her husband about a month ago. She has dementia, and while she is staying in her own condo for now, we're not sure how long that will last. She has a 15 year old cat that she adores. He mourned my stepfather for a while, but seems to be doing better now and is pretty attached to my mom. As I said, she's doing OK for now, and someone checks on her once or twice a day. Here is my question: if she ends up having to move to an assisted living facility, I would probably move into her condo. Which would be easier on the cat--to stay in the condo, where he is familiar and comfortable, or to move with my mom, with whom he has lived since he was six weeks old, even though it would be a new place? Of course he knows me, but he isn't attached to me at all. Also, I have an eight year old cat that I just adopted about 7 months ago. I don't know how the two of them would get along. My cat seems pretty laid back, but hers is a little more feisty. As I said, we're going to do all we can to keep her at home for as long as we can. I'm just trying to plan ahead and also trying to do what's best for the cats and for us. Thanks for your help!
