It wouldn't have been hard at all for me to walk out of the store without celery in my cart for that price. I just won't pay it.

While I enjoy going to a Saturday farmer's market, the produce prices are oftentimes higher than the grocery store, and I always seem to come home with a pair of earrings from one of the crafts booths 😂😂😂
Farmer's markets are often as high or often higher than grocery stores because it costs a lot more per item for them to raise that stuff, then pick it usually themselves and the cost of hauling it to market on the CHANCE that all of it will sell. That's a big investment and a big risk.
The thing about farming is it is a HUGE risk financially. It's easy to not make money some years. Very easy. Equipment costs a bazillion dollars, labor, seed, fuel bills, and on and on.
You should expect farmers market items to be fresher and maybe have varieties you don't see in the stores. NOT cheaper.

I'm really into buying organic these days. I would not have spent that on non-organic.

You all are shopping at the wrong stores. Celery is 98¢ today at Walmart.

@Kachina624...I do most of my shopping at WM, however, I do know some people that think WM is beneath them, and they will not shop there. Eye roll.

In-season produce is cheap here in the southeast. The farmers have more than they can sell. You are more likely to find me at a farmer's market than a flea market in the summer, but actually you can find produce at both. And even livestock.

A few months back leafy lettuce was up to $2.95 each....I stopped buying it until the price came back down. It was not that I could not afford it. I just WILL NOT pay too much for something. It is the principle of it all.

I used to eat organic, telling my Father that he should eat more vegetables, etc...
The man is 98 and taking Quantum physics for fun...I'm rethinking changing my diet to a bologna, heavy cream , soda and bacon/sausage/pancakes diet...since that's mostly what he eats 😂😂

I don't get all of the hoopla about farmer's markets. Ours are way more expensive than the grocery stores and the couple of times I tried them out, the quality/taste wasn't any better either.

If I need just a little bit of produce (like celery...frequently celery!) I buy a little bit from the salad bar.
