When does school start in your area? - Page 4

Most schools here start Aug 25th (and so do my grandkids about an hour away). YES it IS ridiculous. My kids and myself always used to start Sept 7th or 8th.

Also the kids now will go a few days then have off Fri and Mon of Labor Day wk end.

My kids/grandkids are going to the shore the week before school and come home Sunday and must go to school the next day. (But its the only week they can go in the Summer due to son in laws work schedule).

in my state the magic number is 180 but many private schools go as few as 170 or 175.

My grandson goes back August 11th. This week he is being tested to see what grade level he wil be in this year. He is starting 5th grade and last year he was walked to the middle school for math science and history. They think that his classes will be in the 7th grade and maybe 8th grade for math. Any way his scout den thinks he is a little weird about being excited about going back to school.

State law in Michigan doesn't allow public schools to start until after Labor Day, so pretty much all of them start the day after.

I have friends that teach in Manatee & Sarasota counties in Florida, and the first day for students in each is August 18th. Mon-Weds of Thanksgiving week are designated as "hurricane make-up" days. If they don't have to use those, they get the entire week of Thanksgiving off.

Teachers go back September 2nd (officially).

Students go back September 3rd.

August 18. That is the earliest our schools have ever started and people are having a fit about it. I have no idea why they are starting them so early this year.
