Re: When did you learn about.......the birds & the bees

They had sex education flicks when I was in the 4th or 5th grade in Hawaii. Some kids parents did not want their kids to see them so they had to work in the cafeteria. All the kids that watched the flicks were laughing at all the pics. LOL!!! My parents never said anything about it.

I just can't comprehend parents that don't explain the facts of life to their kids. I'm so glad that I didn't grow up in an era when that was common.

It has always been something I knew about. I had a terrible thing happen to me when I was very young.

12. My mind was too occupied on making money than birds and insects that fly and sting.

Re: When did you learn about.......the birds & the bees

I was nine when the Girl Scouts sent a permission slip home asking to show us a film on our "monthly cycle." My mother was furious. She said I was far too young to hear about that and that I wouldn't need to know about that for another four years.

I used to help my older brother on his paper route on Sundays. He filled me in on the details of "the act." I remember when he told me, I thought..."No way would Mom and Dad do that!"

I agree.

I think that it's sad that parents are "too embarrassed" or just refuse to tell their children about how and where babies come from.

No good comes from keeping kids ignorant about that.

I mean, just because they know the hows and whys, doesn't mean that they are going to run out and do it.

@Plaid Pants2

I think it's sad that some parents are so clueless that they honestly believe they're the only source for information!

If they won't tell their kids something they're curious about, they'll just ask around until some friend tells them what they want to know ....  whether it's accurate or not won't factor into it, lol.

I think I was about eight when a cousin decided to educate me. I went to my parents for clarification.

All questions were honestly answered in my home, and misconceptions were corrected.

Ahhhh The wonderful shirt cardboards.---My sister and would fight over them. Every once in a while the laundry would have printed cardboards with games, connect the dots, puzzles etc or things to color. What heaven!

In later years mr henny liked "lightly starched, on a hanger"  So my kids never had the joy.
