Re: What's your favorite sandwich?

There are some great combinations in this thread. It made me realize just how much I like a good sandwich. Come to think of it ....it's one of my favorite meals.

One of my favorites is scrambled eggs, canadian bacon and buttered (real butter) on an English muffin. And I would never turn down a hot roast beef sandwich.

Re: What's your favorite sandwich?

Just an FYI, I've been coming across sandwich recipes lately that are all veg with a twist...

They take black beans or garbanzo beans and mash them down with a potato masher or the back of a fork, then add flavorings and/or a little mayo or something.  Then pile on things like tomato, avocado, lettuce, etc.

I suppose the mashed bean spread is to add protein.  It sounds all good to me.

Re: What's your favorite sandwich?

A hot, juicy roast beef sandwich from Portillos is the best!

There is a little "dive" place that we go to in Chicago once in a while.  They make a pork chop sandwich that truly is so delicious.  It's a bone-in pork chop on a good bun with carmelized onions and chipotle seasoned red peppers.

Sometimes when we go to the French Market on a Saturday, they still have some of the banh mi left.  So, so, so good...

I usually eat pretty boring sandwiches, like a scrambled egg on toast, or all veg with avodado.

But... the one I love the best is once a year only and is made of Thanksgiving leftovers: sliced turkey breast, homemade cranberry sauce, and even stuffing.

One I love but haven't had in years is a Monte Cristo.  The very best is made in Disneyland, the Pirates of the Caribbean restaurant.  It's ham and turkey with cheese, grilled on both sides of the bread, then the outside is sprinkled with powdered sugar.  Jam is served on the side to add to the sandwich.  Man, those calories will hold your for a month!

@Noel7

After seeing the Meryl Streep movie, It's Complicated, I craved the sandwich she made, the Croque Monsieur - similar to the Monte Cristo but without any sweet items.

Hi @GingerPeach

Yes, I think it's basically the same sandwich without the powdered sugar or jam.  Dee-licious!

Re: What's your favorite sandwich?

@momtochloe  If I was a bread maker you bet I'd share it.  Unfortunately both the salad and the bread are from my fav local Lucky'sMarket.

Lucky's originates in Colorado, locally grown fruits, veggies, a lot of organics, in house made items.  They chose to expand east of the Mississippi and landed here about 2 years ago.  Love this place, lots of bulk foods, craft beers, not big at all, not much larger than Aldi's in fact.

I I were a bread maker however, I'd make a recipe with these ingredients in it myself.  If you bake bread Ms MTC, You can make this.  Give it a try, I'm betting your's would be great!

Well instead of being dipped in batter and fried, it has bechamel on top and then the cheese. At least that's the way I've always made them.
