When I am done for the night dealing with people, I just turn my phone off. Probably around 10pm, usually. If it's important, they'll leave a message.

The majority of our calls stop at 9 p.m.
However, people who know me well, know I rarely go to bed before midnight, so I am often having phone conversations after 10 p.m. A very good friend had surgery 2 months ago that has been a far bigger ordeal than she, or her Dr. expected. She's had several bad days and needed to talk late at night, so I listen, or talk, until she's calmed down enough to sleep.

8:00 p.m. for the same reason. After 8:00, unless it's an extreme emergency, I tell them I'll call them tomorrow.

Call me anytime. I answer if I am up for it. If the call is unexpected, and I don't pick up, I expect anyone who wants/needs to speak right away to leave a message, preferably text. Not a fan of voicemail, but iPhone making it easier now with mssg transcripts. But no transcripts for Spanish language messages. My iPhone is bilingual for auto-correct in typing (thank you, I think), but not for voice mail transcripts. If anyone knows how to train the IPhone for this, let me know. I asssume I can set the language for Spanish, like I do sometimes with the keyboard, but if I can only have one language, most vms are in English. Trasncripts are gen'ly decent.

Friends & family know I am a night owl so late night calls do not bother me at all.
I have a landline w/an answering machine & the ringer is kept off because I suffer from migraines. If I want to talk to the person leaving a message, I'll pick up. Otherwise, I'll call them when I get up for the day or not!

It was an always-on-call house here, so never made the distinction.

I usually don't answer after 10 pm..If the phone rings after 10 and I see one of my kid's numbers on the ID..I answer of course.

I have never liked chit-chatting on the phone. It might be because of the job I had. I was on the phone all day long dealing with customers and everything else that comes with running an office. I'm retired now, and in the late afternoon, after dinner,, I am ready to collapse on the sofa and enjoy reading, watching movies, and TV. So, I stop answering the phone anywhere between 3 PM to 6 PM depending on how I feel. I love getting emails and don't mind voicemail. I tell people the best way to get a hold of me is email. I have a family member who always calls around 8 PM. I don't answer the phone. She loves to chit-chat on the phone too, and by that time of the evening I just don't feel like talking. And she calls around 8 PM (or later) because that is when it's convenient for her.

I would prefer not to get any calls after 9:00 pm although I haven't received any evening calls in a long time except around election time when I can tell it's probably a survey or a candidate. I don't answer numbers I don't recognize anytime of day though, so I don't pick those up.
I would hope, though, that anybody calling me at 9:00 or after have something important, not to just chit chat. I really only have 1 or 2 people I chit chat with and only on occasion though.
I have gotten one of those early morning calls nobody wants to get, so I would get really nervous at any late night calls. My cell phone automatically goes to Do Not Disturb at 11:00 and my bedroom phone ringer is also off at night. I'm a light sleeper, so if someone does call, I'll hear it in the other room.
