This must be a regional thing.

My American grandfather pronounced it  as you have it  spelled, "oh kur." My British grandfather never heard of it. I put it in a soup, and he had no idea what it was.

Google pronunciation is more like your "oh kra." I think I will go with this one if I ever have to say it again.

@Highlands72 , I'm sorry if I'm wrong, but I think she means the color , not the vegetable.

@threecees  or how about, so and so is 5'9" and wears an xxs, or is in the size 4. I'm 5'9" and wear a size 12. And I'm not heavy. Good grief! It's enough to give a normal, healthy person a complex. LOL

"At the end of the day, "

There is no end of the day.  The only time we have is the present.  The past is past, the future hasn't happened.  There is no such thing as time, only this present moment in space.

Are you wearing a mask or not?

@Highlands72 @It would help some speakers if they knew okra is a fruit (seeds) or considered a vegetable by some and that ochre is a color.

Ah! I see that I was off on the wrong track. I didn't even think of the color when I read this.

I had filed the color away in my crayon memory with burnt umber.
